Show MISS SHARON PORTER IS BRIDE OF MAY 12 The home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Porter, Bingham Canyon, was setting sett-ing Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock for a wedding which united in marriage their daughter. Miss Sharon Rebecca Porter, and Boyd Charles Whetsel. Officiating at the nuptials was Bishop Wilford M. Harris. Only immediate families were in attendance. at-tendance. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. WhetseJ also of Ringhnm Canyon. The couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Denslry. The newlyweds arc making their home at 212 Main Street in Bingham Bing-ham Canyon. Before entering the service he graduated from Bingham High School. AMERICAN LEGION LISTS OFFICERS FOR NEXT YEAR William Henning! was reelected commander of American Legion Post No. 30 of Bingham Canyon for the coming year during annual elections held recently, it is announced. an-nounced. Other officers elected are: Patrick Pat-rick Ortega, first vice commander, and Pete Dimas, second vice com-ninnder. com-ninnder. Following are the appointive officers of-ficers that were listed for the coming com-ing year: adjutant, Nick Pazell; finance officer, Jack Hawkins; chaplain, R. C. Stevenson; historian for graves, Edward Brcntel; service officer, Ross Pino; sergeant at arms, Anthony Gonzales, and publicity, pub-licity, Tommy Johnson. The regularly scheduled Legion meeting for Monday night, May 18 will not be held that night, but instead in-stead be held on the following Monday, Mon-day, May 23, at which time members mem-bers will meet in Copperton at the cemetery and spend the evening cleaning graves of veterans for Memorial Day. It was announced by Mr. Brentel, the post's athletic director, that the Bingham Post is again sponsoring a local team in the Salt Lake Valley Jr. American Baseball League. GRADUATES FROM AERIAL NAVIGATION SCHOOL Cherry Point, N.C. (FHTNC) Marine Act. Sgt. Don E. Diederich, son of Mr. and Mis. E. A. Diederich of 209 4th East. Copperton, graduated grad-uated from the Aerial Navigation School at the Marine CorpsAir .Station, Cherry Point, .April 16. During tho nineteen-week course he received instruction in all phases of navigation, including dead-re-choning, celestial, pressure and radar. The final week of the course the class was held aboard a R5D, 4-engine 4-engine Marine Transport plane. For the final examination, Sgt. Diederich Diede-rich plotted the aircrafts course and determined the exact time of arrival ar-rival at points along the planes course. The flying classroom logged 132 hours of flying time while applying theory learned in classes. Diederich visited such places as Preswick, Scotland; Munich, Germany; Ger-many; Paris, France; the Azores; and Bermuda. The Marine Corps is the only branch of the armed forces presently pres-ently utilizing enlisted men as aerial aer-ial navigators. STUDY GUILD HOLDS CLOSING PARTY, AND INSTALLATION Copperton LDS Wardhouse provided pro-vided the setting Monday evening, May I I; for the very lovely closing party and annual installation of officers of the Copperton Study Gudd. The new officers, installed into office by Mrs. George Knudsen, who will serve during the 1959-60 club year are: Mrs. Miles Gayth-waite, Gayth-waite, president; Mrs. Harley Eng- scholarships cover registration and tuition fees and transportation expenses ex-penses on field trips, according to Norman Clayton, Natural Resources Committee chairman. In addition to nine classroom days, the course will include eight days of field trips to such industries as copper, lead, zinc, uranium, iron, steel, oil, gas, steel fabricating, salt, fertilizer and builcjipg materials. Although the course is intended primarily for teachers in natural sciences and social sciences, any junior or senior high school teacher, teach-er, counselor or school administra-I administra-I tor may apply with the U. Piano accompaniment was played by Jimmy Prigmore. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. George Dahlstrom, Mrs. John Dahlstrom, Mrs. Harvey Goff and Mrs. English. Approximately 80 members and guests were in attendance. atten-dance. Weekly meeting of the Fire Auxiliary was held Monday night with Mis. Tom Prigmore hostess for the evening. Bridge was played and prizes won by Mrs. A. O. Ja-cobson, Ja-cobson, Mrs. Boyd Anderson, Mrs. Leonard Bell and Mrs. John T. West. Lovely refreshments were served to twelve members. Mrs. ' Don Prigmore will be hostess next Monday night. ' Karen Bell was home from studies stu-dies at Brigham Young Univeroity ' at Provo to spend the week end and Mother's day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bell and ' family. Mrs. Maggie Peck returned Monday Mon-day from spending two weeks in Spanish Fork with Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Stickney and family and a week in Murrny with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Prigmore and family. Mrs. Eugene Morris and daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. A. D. Christensen, spent last week end in Portage visiting with their daughter and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Josh Hawks and family, J. D. and Julee. They left Saturday and returned Sunday. Mr. nnd Mrs. Stanley W. Jacques spent last week end in Logan with Mr. Jacques' sister, Miss Myrtle Jacques. Last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Morley attended the Midvale Methodist Meth-odist Church Sunday School Mother's Moth-er's day program in which their grandson, Gary Thome, took part, and later were dinner guests of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thome and son, Gary, of Murray. Mr. and Mrs. K. Verl Stewart and daughter, Toni, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ceorge Pollock of West Jordan, Saturday. Patsy Nielson of Salt Lake City spent Saturday night and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hunt Nielson and family. Mrs. A. D. Bentley was hostess to her bridge club Wednesday evening. ev-ening. SCIENCE TEACHERS GIVEN EXTRA WEEK TO APPLY FOR U. SCHOLARSHIPS Junior and senior high school science teachers of the state have been given an extra week until May 15, to apply for scholarships to take a three-week Utah mineral industries workshop June 9 to July I at the University of Utah. The Natural Resources Committee Commit-tee of the Utah Associated Chambers Cham-bers of commerce provides 35 scholarships for the course. These Linger Longer Club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. John Nilsson in Sandy. Contract bridge was played and prizeo won by Mrs. , G. T. Buckle. Mrs. H. R. Gust, Mrs. Ross M. Cushing and Mrs. . Pete Smith. Mrs. Cushing's birthday was celebrated and she received many nice gifts. Mystery sisters was also held. A beautiful birthday cake was the table centerpiece. Mother's Day Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Aimer Berg went in to see "South Pacific", afterwards visiting with their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and daughters, Donna and Vickie, of Holladay. Later all motored to Bountiful to visit their son and brother, bro-ther, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Berg and family for the evening. Several stake officers were in attendance at the Bingham Ward mutual meeting Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Kanneth King and family of Riverton were Mother's Day Sunday visitors of Mrs. King's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Key-saw Key-saw Jr. and family. |
