He H row watched every moment, and will have no further opportunity for ) Andrew Adams, the waiter, who made a fiendish attempt to murder Mis. Jennie Gerald and commit suicide Monday upon morning, made another attempt neceshis life last night. It has been sary to place a guard over him to prevent him removing the plaster cast and bandages from his throat. After the surgeons had stitched up hU throat a plaster cast was put over it to some prevent him moving his head. For time he made no effort to be troublesome, but last night he became restless. Fearing that he would injure himelf, a special nurse was detailed to watch him. He watched the nurse, and when he supposed the lattei was not looking, attempted to get cut of bed to jump out of a window. Ueing thwarted in this, he tried tn rip the bandaces from his throat, that he might again open the awful wound and bleed to death. So persistent was he that it was ne cessary to hold his hands. Adams says hut little, and then to the effect that he will die yet. The doctors have little hope for his recovery. Mrs. Gerald is .progressing favoiably, and unless septic poisoning sets in, wiil recover. She is deeply interested in Adams condition, and frequently asks what are his chances for ret ovcry. That is for the business men of this? city irrespective of politics, relig- on or previous condition of servitude, to unite, stand together and work together to secure th.e nomination and election of a Mayor and Council that svill represent their interests." llr. Ferry's Clear-Cu- t Views. This is the straightout, unqualified ieclaration of W. Mom Ferry, one of the young leaders in mining and business circles of Salt Lake. Mr. Ferry was today asked by The IV' leg ram: "What Fhaii the business men do in the coming campaign to help Salt Lake ?" His first statement is quoted above. Mr. Ferry backed ud the first expression of his views with a clear and explanation of existing municipal conditions anl the remedies to be applied. Continuing he said: As to Municipal Conditions. "Our municipal affairs are in a state that almost denes description and surpasses belief. Many serious problems demand solution and the administration seems to have no conception of their significance. Paramount is the water question, which the present Council handles in a way befitting, not the modern city that talt Lake must become, but the overgrown village that the town was fifteen, years ago. Streets and Sidewalks. ' Then there are the matters of streets and sidewalks, both of which are just about as bad as they can be. We never will solve the question properly until we give the city an administration that represents thu city itself, not a political machine affair that is devoted to furthering petty and personal ends. Strong Council Heeded. "The Mayor must be a man of broad "iews and business experience.. He uist be backed up by a Council of the line kind of material. Only men who avc made a success of their own busies and who have the capacity to look questions presented from a broad-uge- d standpoint should be uved to arrange the affairs of the nicipality.
