Christensen has been appointed manager-cashie-r of Utah National Bank of Provo by the board of directors. Mr. Christensen is the present cashier of the bank and has had 18 years banking and finance experience. A native Utahn, he lives with his family in Provo, and is the father of five children. He in has served twice as, an' ZDS bishop and in Orem. Mr. Christensen replaces Joseph T. Smith Lwho. has served as president of the bank for the past two years. Mr. Smith will take up new bank duties as vice president and manager of the First Valley Bank of San Jose, Calif., First Valley is a 32 million dollar bank. Bank Application in American Fork Denied Word has been received by the organizing group for a new national bank in American Fork from the comptroller of the cur rency's office to the effect that the application pending has been disapproved. The comptroller of the currency, James J. Saxon, has beea quoted as follows in support of his temporary freeze in establishing new banks: "To provide a reasonable opportunity for recently formed banks to develop and in order for us to assess LfiJ . 1 any public need, for additional facilities in the future." I Also the comptroller's office feels that the three banks in I the north end of the county are presently serving the needs of "' the area. T. Elmer Jacobsen was president of the Provo Building and Loan Society at the recent meeting of the board of directors. Mr. Jacobsen, an experienced real estate man, has 'served the company as its president for over 10 years. He has been a member of the board of directors for 33 years. The Keigley Quarry near Payson was given a'Safety Award by the commission for operating 642,579 man hours without a disabling injury from Aug. 11, 1958 until Jan. 31, 1965. Mr. Gronning presented the award to employees of Keigley Quarry Thursday afternoon. The safety records at both the Utah Ore Operations and at Keigley Quarry continue unbroken. Condie has been appointed turn foreman of plate finishing at U.S. Steel's Geneva Works, it was announced by J. VI Mazurie, division superintendent of Geneva's Tolling mills. A native of Springville; Condie was graduated from Utah State University with ,a B.S. degree in economics. He joined Geneva Works in 1955 as a junior industrial engineer. John R. Huntington has been named turn foreman of ladle lining and labor in the open hearth and foundry department at Geneva. The announcement was made by R. E. Aikins, division superintendent, Huntington was born in Spanish Fork and attended Brigham Young University, where he received a B.S. degree in education. He began his career with U.S. Steel in 1953. Two foremen have been appointed In the maintenance and utilities division at Geneva! Ray J. Downs has been named foreman of salvage and yard maintenance; and Maurice Jenkins has been promoted to foreman of rolling mill furnace repairs. The appointments were made by M. E. Strate, division superintendent Downs, a native of Orem, was graduated from Utah State University, where he received an M.S. degree in agronomy. Jenkins was born in Provo and attended the University of Utah.
