Mr. Daley, killed in an auto accident in October, 1963, was organizer of i the Little League Baseball program in Payson. The boys he began working with some eight years before his death had no specific place to practice - or to play. His mother, Mrs. Myrtle . Daley, gave permission for them to use her lower lot, stating that the ground; had raised; a good garden,- and she thought it might "raise good boys through the ball programs." Ned spent much of his spare time in developing the area into a ball j field. Regulation dugouts and fences were built and it was almost complete at the time of his death. Six teams were organized in Payson, with from 15 to 20 boys on each team. Ned spearheaded the program in sponsoring of suits and all teams were outfitted through ' cooperation of various Payson firms. Mayor Eugene Hillman, who spent many years on the baseball diamond as a young man, stated today that "It isn't hard to keep something going after the work of organizing and has been done by building someone else" and gave full credit to Ned Daley for establishment of the Little League program in Payson. Mayor Hillman said everything is complete at Daley Field except planting and getting a good stand of sod.
