Show A-6 The Park Record Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues, July 28-31, 2018 Candidate marks down exit After a withdrawl, interim recorder only choice for job SPA SPECIAL LOCALS ONLY M. Alex Natt, one of only two candidates who filed to become the next Summit County recorder, withdrew from the race, clearing the way for interim recorder Rhonda Francis to hold the post through 2020. Natt, a Park City attorney and Summit County Democratic Party candidate, submitted a statement to the party’s central committee Tuesday evening, informing the members of his decision. “I filed for Summit County recorder as I felt this could be my opportunity to begin serving,” Natt said in the statement. “However, as I examine the qualifications of my competitor Ms. Francis as well as her passion for the particular role, it appears to me that her skill set is the right one for the position of Summit County Recorder now.” Natt declared his candidacy on June 20, the last day of the filing window. He has been practicing in law in Summit County since 1997 but has never served in a recorder or surveyor position during his 21-year career. The central committee was scheduled to choose between Francis and Natt to serve as recorder through 2018 and appear as the party’s nominee on the November ballot. Natt’s exit eliminated that decision. The central committee on Thursday nonetheless selected Francis as a matter of formality, according to Summit County Democratic Party Chair Cheryl Butler. That leaves Francis as the only person who will appear on the ballot in November, as the Summit County Republican Party did not field a candidate for the post. Francis is a longtime Summit County employee and has served as chief deputy recorder for the last five years. She took over as interim department head July 1 after former recorder MaryAnn Trussell resigned more than two years before her term was set to expire. According to the Summit County Attorney’s Office, the following cases were heard on Monday, July 23, in 3rd District Court at the Summit County Justice Center: Jay Anthony Rosa, 30, of Sandy, entered a guilty plea to possession or use of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor. The court imposed a one-year jail sentence and a $500 fine. The court suspended 358 days, placed him on court probation for 12 months, ordered him to serve seven days in jail with credit for seven days served, pay a $500 fine and a $200 recoupment fee and complete other standard terms and conditions. Mariana Godinez, 41, of Francis, entered into a 12-month plea in abeyance to theft, a class A misdemeanor. The court ordered her to complete standard terms and conditions. Kristian Jean Kerns, 27, of Salt Lake City, entered a guilty plea to attempted theft, a class A misdemeanor. The court imposed a one-year jail sentence and a $2,500 fine. The sentence was suspended and the court placed her on supervised probation for 24 months, and ordered her to complete standard terms and conditions. Michael S. Lombardo, 25, of West Jordan, entered a guilty plea to criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor, and failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor. The court imposed a 180-day jail sentence and $1,000 fine for criminal mis- chief and a one-year jail sentence for failure to stop at the command of law enforcement. Both sentences were suspended and he was placed on probation for 30 months, ordered to pay a $500 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions. Emily Jane Matthews, 32, of Kamas, entered into a 12-month plea in abeyance to endangerment of a child or elder adult, a third-degree felony. The court ordered the defendant to pay a $300 fee and complete 30 hours of community service and other standard terms and conditions. Hugo Aya Sarmiento, 42, of Park City, entered a guilty plea to reckless endangerment, a Class A Misdemeanor. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 27.
