But the Thunder went up 1-0 in the first half against the Miners, then scored early in the second half – a header from a corner kick that Merchant described as “absolutely gorgeous.” “We’ve been down before and come back, so there wasn’t much concern,” he said. “But as time went on, we had to push people forward and take more chances, and in the end you either win or lose and it wasn’t our day to win.” The Thunder scored two more South Summit Aquatics & Fitness Center Weather Hotline (cancellations) (783-2423) 615-5432 Women’s Volleyball Thursday Park City Ice Arena Ice Hockey 615-5707 Gold League Sunday Silver League Wed/Thurs/Sun High School Sports 6:30 p.m. 7:00-9:00 p.m. Rock Wall Saturday 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Pickleball Open Gym Wed. – Fri 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Basin Recreation Fieldhouse (655-0999) Drop-in Sports Recreation Sports Park City Recreation Services (615-5401) Basketball (age 16 +) Tues/Thurs Noon-2:00 p.m. Basketball (age 16 +) Tues. 8:30-10:00 p.m. Basketball (age 16 +) Sat/Sun 8:00-10:00 a.m. Pickleball (age 16 +) Mon/Wed/Fri 2:00-4:30 p.m. Soccer 7v7 Coed League Wednesday Wed/Thurs/Fri, May 16-18, 2018 Continued from B-1 6:00-9:00 p.m. Continued from B-1 Sports briefs To include an upcoming sports event in the calendar, please send an email to Joe Lair at scoreboard@parkrecord.com BJJ Revolution Team Jiu Jitsu is offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Silver Mountain Sports Club in Prospector. The Miners then defeated Snow Canyon and Juan Diego en route to the finals. goals and cemented their place as the Class 4A champions. Merchant said the team took the loss hard. “They’re young,” he said. “It’s hard to remember how far you’ve come. I told them, ‘You’re playing in an exciting game in a big stadium – someone’s going to win, but there’s not a high school kid in America that wouldn’t want to be in your shoes walking onto the field.’And it’s hard to remem- ber that in the agony of defeat, but they’ve really done well,” Merchant said. Merchant said the team will lose 11 seniors this year, but said there are many talented players coming up through the team’s ranks. “The program is really building well,” Merchant said. “It’s hard not to be sad after a loss, but you have to remember this was an excellent season for us.” GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH WANTED SUMMER MEMBERSHIPS Park City High School Girls Basketball has a new head varsity coach and is seeking coaches to fill an assistant coaching position.
