This was her first time there. And since then, we’ve already booked her at The Cabin and on PCTV.” The open mic sessions usually run until 1 a.m., Lewis said. “We have been known to extend the playing until 1:30 scene The New York Times crossword puzzle ACROSS 1 Small house in the Southwest 7 Covert missions 15 Select 18 Wading birds 20 Light, catchy tunes 21 “Je t’____” 22 Cite 23 Pimp launches career in rap … BUT HAS AN EPIC FAIL! 25 Father of Paris, in myth 26 Apple buy-product? 28 Relax, with “out” 29 Assessed 30 Cabby saves prostitute … WITH HIS BLATHERING! 33 Labatt, for one 34 Composer known for mood music 35 Relinquish 36 Something coming off the shelf? 38 Tropicana products, for short 41 Floor 43 Guy makes a new best friend … WHO TURNS OUT TO BE A COMMUNIST! 50 Beverage called a “tonic” in Boston 51 Inclines 54 Enya’s land 55 Appropriate 56 Retired pool shark returns … TO WIN FRENCH IMPRESSIONIST PAINTING! 60 “____ Revere, Engineer” (bestselling 2013 children’s book) 61 Facial expression often accompanied by “Heh, heh, heh” 62 Big dipper 63 Pink-slip 64 ____ Equis (Mexican beer) 65 Chap gets life lessons from kid … WHO’S REALLY AN ANDROID! 70 One side in college football’s “Big Game” 72 Blue 74 Bitcoin, e.g. 75 Utopias 78 Shoves (in) 81 West Coast officers track wise-cracking detective … TO A BOVINE! 86 One with a role to play 87 Bullets, in cards 88 First “America’s Funniest Home Videos” host 89 Glamorous Gardner 90 Friends gather for a funeral … AND COOK UP AN ENORMOUS STEW! 93 “Bali ____” 94 Lively tune 95 Symbolic bird in “On Golden Pond” 96 Recipe amts. 100 “Angel dust” 102 Kind of knot 107 Bog monster emerges … WITH A NEW LINE OF SNACK CRACKERS! 111 Shakespearean king 112 Auto safety feature to prevent skidding, for short 115 Man, for one 116 Greeting on Maui 118 007 gets fired … AND LANDS A JOB AS A SCOTTISH TAILOR! 121 Out early 123 Playing ____ “SURPRISE ENDINGS” By Priscilla Clark and Jeff Chen Puzzles Edited by Will Shortz 1 2 3 4 5 6 18 7 19 26 30 39 40 27 13 28 14 51 56 53 57 72 58 45 54 55 59 46 80 81 86 66 82 83 102 103 67 68 69 70 104 105 88 92 95 96 106 119 123 124 126 127 124 “Spamalot” writer 125 Drained 126 Object of veneration by ancient Egyptians 127 Casualty of a crash? 128 One side of a ledger DOWN Goldfish, e.g. Sidestep Balkan capital Mountaineer’s tool Skynet’s T-800’s, e.g. One who’s passed the bar: Abbr. And we only do that twice a year.” Still, no matter the season, there are always musicians who show up to play, Runyon said. “The community is what keeps it going,” she said. “Even during mud season, we always have at least 10 people who show up to play.” Runyon and Hareza also started a Park City musician Facebook page. “When people come to the open mic, we add them to the page and that allows us to communicate as a group,” Runyon said. “That way if we have a jam session or other unique things happening with open“ mic, we can post on this page.” W Runyon also lets peopleg know about other open mics and singer-songwriter gatherings in town. “We want people to meet each other and collaborate with other musicians and singers and songwriters,” she said. Runyon said the open mic sessions will continue as long as they can. “It’s all about getting the community active, getting the community out there and playing as much as possible,” she said. Weekly open mic is held Mondays at 9 p.m. at The Cabin, 825 S. Main St. For information, call 435-565-2337 or visit www. thecabinparkcity.com. Continued from C-2 challenge of knowing the chemistry of the grape and the flavor wine.” Selecting the chocolate to fit the wines was also an adventure. “We have to know if we’re going to pair that with white chocolate, dark chocolate, a flavored chocolate,” Wood said. Wood met Sheya through a series of circumstances last year. “I work with a private chef, Mattson McFarland, on various wine events, and he’s also an instructor at the Salt Lake Culinary Center,” Wood said. “We did an event with the Salt Lake Culinary Center before the holidays, and that’s when I met Diane.” Sheya showed Wood around the center. “I was amazed to see this beautiful hands-on cooking center, and that’s when we decided to do some events together,” Wood said. “This is the first of three that we’re doing, and we just want to see how it will go.” The Park City Wine Club and Salt Lake Culinary Center will present “Wine and Chocolate / Chocolate and Wine: A Match Made in Heaven” from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, at the Salt Lake Culinary Center, 2233 S. 300 East. The cost is $65. The event is open to participants ages 21 and older. Reservations are required. To make reservations, visit www.saltlakeculinarycenter.com/events/wine-and-choc-C olate-a-match-made-in-heaven. Wine and chocolate tasting set After that pairing, the class will return to sample the truffles with wine. “Everyone will get the recipes and the Ritual Chocolate samples to take home,” Wood said. Wood and Salt Lake Culinary Center Director and owner Diane Sheya selected the wines and chocolates for the class a few months ago. “We did a lot of practice tastings, and we actually had some combinations that weren’t very good,” Wood said. “Some people will think to pair a cabernet sauvignon, a widely recognized red wine, with a dark chocolate. That’s not exactly true, because chocolate and wine both contain tannin.” Tannin is a natural chemical compound that gives wine its dryness and chocolate its bitterness. “So when you pair those two together, you end up fighting for dryness in your mouth and not enjoying any of the flavors,” she said. “We had to figure out the F w a 117 122 125 128 27 31 32 33 36 37 38 39 40 42 44 45 46 47 48 49 52 53 57 58 59 66 67 68 69 70 71 72 73 Flick Carpentry rod Gift on a string Spiner of “Star Trek: T.N.G.” Destined (to be) Singer Sands Goes (for) In song, Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt’s first name Mix and match? ____ Gay (W.W.
