Show The Park Record Wed/Thurs/Fri, August 23-25, 2017 Arts Council, Farasha and Zenzee will host trunk show C-5 PUZZLE ANSWERS FROM PAGE C-4 Fundraiser will be held Friday during the Gallery Stroll By SCOTT IWASAKI The Park Record The Park City Gallery Association’s Monthly Gallery Stroll, which is held the last Friday of each month, is a special time designated for art. Member galleries on and off Main Street will sometimes schedule art demonstrations or events to highlight artists, the creative process and the local art scene. This Friday’s stroll will feature a unique trunk show that is the result of a collaboration between the Park City Summit County Arts Council, Zenzee fashion designs and Farasha Boutique. The event will run from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 25, at Farasha, 605 Main St. “The trunk show will include pieces of what Zenzee calls the Arts Council Collection, designed by Sharon Backurz,” said Farasha owner Vanessa Di Palma Wright. “We’ll do an endof-season sale to support the emerging artists and designers we work with.” “I always love to use my skill to give back,” said Zenzee owner Backurz, who is on the art council’s board of directors. “I’ve worked on past arts council events such as the Monster Drawing and Branded PC. Since I’m a graphic designer, I can help with the look, feel and branding of those events, as well as program them.” A few weeks ago, Backurz and the arts council decided to create the Arts Council fashion line, which features men’s and women’s shirts and bags. “I just went after it and created a line with arts-minded themes,” Backurz said. “We hashtag ArtsLovers and ArtsMakers to help raise funds for the Arts Council. The line will give 30 percent of its proceeds to the council.” The public can view the items on the Park City Summit County Arts Council’s website (pcscarts.org). “People can click on the items, and that will click through to my website so people can purchase the clothing,” Backurz said. “And we hope we’ll get a little more visibility through the trunk show.” The printing was done by Motherlode Park City. “They are our local printer and did it all for us,” Backurz said. “We are grateful to them.” The trunk show will also be the last event that will be held at the Farasha store, Di Palma Wright said. “We have rebranded Farasha as a fashion consulting company, and we’re excited to go out there and fully do fashion consulting and styling production and brand representation,” she said. “With that said, we’re closing the [brick and mortar] store on Aug. 29, so we can focus on doing that.” While clients have told Di SPEND YOUR WEEKEND AT THE LODGE This Labor Day weekend, book 2 nights and get the 3rd night free! Thirty percent of the sales will benefit the Park City Summit County Arts Council. A trunk show fundraiser featuring the line will open at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, at Farasha Boutique. Palma Wright how sad they are to see the store close, she is excited for new opportunities. “This will free up time to travel more and focus on temporary stores and pop-up boutiques, which is where our strength lies,” Di Palma Wright said. “This is how we differentiate ourselves from other retailers.” The decision to close the store has been bouncing around Di Palma Wright’s mind for a while. “The consulting side has grown over the years, and we have seen a need for our services from a lot of the emerging brands and artists we work with to be represented,” she said. “We help with photo shoots, production and styling, as well as executing and managing the popups in niche locations such as Park City. “While I think we were fortunate to have the opportunity to be on Main Street these past three years, retail is just not where the future of what we do is.” Di Palma Wright believes collaborating with the Park City Summit County Arts Council and Zenzee is the perfect way to exit the retail world. “Strategic partnerships are how I like to manage the business,” she said. “Part of the reason we wanted to do this collaboration with the Arts Council and Zenzee is because we want to be supportive of other arts organizations in our community who are well aligned with what we do. That way we grow together in supporting local artists.” Di Palma Wright has no regrets about her decision. “This is one of those natural things that we wanted to do during the final monthly Park City Gallery Association’s Gallery Stroll of the summer season,” she said. “It’s a goodbye for us on Main Street, and for us to show people what’s ahead for Farasha in 2017.” Park City Summit County Arts Council, Zenzee and Farasha will host a trunk show from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 25, at Farasha, 605 Main St. The event is free and open to the public.
