Ian was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing. Ian is survived by former wives Barbara Dowie, Nancy Pollard and Nicolette “Nicki” Clemons; sons Paul and David Dowie; and grandchildren James and Sophia Dowie. Ian was born March 3, 1938, in London to James and Ethel Dowie. He attended Imperial College of London University, graduating in 1958 at the age of 20 years old with honors in electrical engineering. He joined a company called Seismograph Services, and shortly thereafter, Ian was off to Nigeria to pursue oil exploration. In 1960, he married Barbara (Page) and brought Barbara back to Nigeria for the second half of his contract. In 1962, Ian and Barbara immigrated to Toronto, where they spent the next 18 years. For the majority of that time, Ian worked for IBM. With the birth of their severely handicapped child, Paul Dowie, Ian was inspired to begin Credit Valley Treatment Center for Children (now called Erinoak) for handicapped children in Toronto. To this day, the facility treats 3,000 children each year. A lasting legacy we were all very proud of. In 1980, Ian and his family immigrated to the United States and Continued from A-1 Dream USA Gala 2760 Rasmussen Rd., D-202, Park City, UT 84098 435.602.6023 We Are One Seven, LLC is a registered investment advisor. fundraiser was not only born but was a success, Macuga said. In 1992, Ian made his way to Park City to join son David. He was very active in the community, supporting several charities, including the National Ability Center, and served as a Board Member of the Make a Wish Foundation. In 1993, Ian married Nancy Pollard and played an integral role in the lives of Nancy’s children: Brodie, Getty and Pablo Pollard. Ian is fondly remembered for successfully integrating the two families and creating lasting memories of family vacations and experiences. While living in Park City, Ian pursued real estate development. Many will remember his iconic English accent on KPCW, “This is Ian Dowie for Goshawk Ranch!” Ian had a unique ability of connecting with his son’s generation of friends. In the small town of Park City, where most people came from somewhere else, Ian became a “second father” to many young people through his generosity, openness and desire to engage. He loved spending time with his daughter-in-law, Daniela, and beautiful grandchildren, James and Sophia. In 2006, Ian married Nicki. They moved to Salt Lake City to begin the next chapter in Ian’s life. Ian was proud of his English heritage and maintained a close relationship with his many cousins in London, which he has passed on to his son and grandchildren. We are so grateful that his cousins, Jackie and Alan, decided to attend his funeral to honor his life. The family wishes to express gratitude to the many caregivers at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living and Envision Hospice, and to all the people who loved him. A funeral service is scheduled at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1505 White Pine Canyon Road in Park City, on Tuesday, July 25. A visitation will precede the funeral at 10 a.m., with the funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Park City Cemetery. All that knew Ian are welcome. The businesses I’ve asked for donations for auction items have been wonderful.” Some of the items up for auction will be a dinner made by Dar Hendrickson, a longtime Park City Ski Team coach, and the opportunity to go skate skiing with the U.S. men’s Nordic team. With the annual Spring Tourn- ee coming up, the fundraiser comes at a perfect time for the two teams. Excitement is beginning to gather in the area just half a year away from another Winter Olympics, so the team needs to ensure — through the Dream USA 2018 Gala — it’ll be able to make it there. “We’re just so grateful,” Macuga said. “We’re grateful to the Jeremy Ranch Golf Course for helping us out, as well as the whole community endeavor [to help us].” The Dream USA 2018 Gala will take place on Wednesday, July 26, and is scheduled to go from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club.
