They turned the room over to us for the time.” The Institute is an intensive program where young artists learn from world-renowned faculty, rehearse and perform chamber music, hone their solo skills, participate in master classes and network. “Years ago, the Park City Beethoven Festival featured a Young Artist Institute but we stopped doing it for a few years,” Harlow said. “We decided to bring it back this year.” The Institute is offering two sessions: July 5-10 and July 11-16. “We have 19 students who have signed up, and some of them will stay for both ses- sions,” Harlow said. The Institute students are scheduled to perform two concerts during the Beethoven Festival. The first will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, and the second will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 16. Both shows will take place at Temple Har Shalom. “These two concerts will be performed for 45 minutes to an hour before the Artist Showcases, which will feature our Beethoven Festival musicians,” Harlow said. “So, people can come early and enjoy the young artists.” The second master class Chase will teach will be on July 19 in Orem. “That will be after the Institute classes end, but some of the students who live in Utah will still be here, so we decided to do a second master class,” Harlow said. Another new guest artist and Young Artist Institute faculty member this year is bassist Peña; and bassist Erik Harris. • July 17 — Chamber Music in the Park, 6 p.m., City Park, free • July 19 — Artist Showcase Concert, 7:30 p.m., Orem Library, 58 State St., Orem, free. Program: Mozart Duo for Violin and Viola; Mozart Clarinet Quintet; Dvorak “Dumke” Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano. Program: The Beethoven Festival of Park City will present Stephanie Chase, internationally acclaimed concert violinist and medalist in the Tchaikovsky Competition. She will be joined by violinists Donna Fairbanks and Blanka Bednar; violist Leslie Harlow; cellist Cheung Chau; clarinetist Russell Harlow; and pianist Doris Stevenson. Harris will teach during the second session. “We originally wanted to ask Thomas Zera, who performs with the Utah Symphony to teach, but found he was on sabbatical,” Harlow said. “Thom recommended Erik, who was named one of the 100 Most Noted Alumni from Juilliard. “Erik’s wife is from Utah originally, so he knows Utah and Park City and thought it would be fun to come teach during the second session.” In addition, the Beethoven Festival will welcome guest resident artist Edith Pena, a • Violist Leslie Harlow • Clarinetist Russell Harlow • Bassist Erik Harris • Cellist Cheung Chau • Cellist Jeffrey Solow pianist from Spain. “She will be here because she and Simon Gollo are going to record a CD in Switzerland later,” Harlow said. “This will give them the opportunity to rehearse the music here during the festival. She will rehearse, but also perform some concerts with us. It’s fun for us to offer an artist residency.” Park City Beethoven Festival will perform a free concert at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, at Miner’s Park on Main Street.
