Park City is full of biking trails and parks that are open and free to use summer months. There are almost too many trails and biking events in town, but the Mountain Trails Foundation is hoping to eliminate the overwhelming feeling of trying to keep track of the summer recreation options. On Wednesday, Mountain Trails will host its annual Mountain Madness event, Park City’s all-things-trails open house sponsored by EpicPromise. The event will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel, formerly known as The Yarrow. “The event is an all-thingstrails open house designed to allow the public to interface personally with the trails/open-space organizations,” Lora Smith, Development and Resource Manager at Mountain Trails, said. “Questions, comments, concerns will be addressed. Also, the organizations will be presenting on their projects, successes and challenges at individual booths.” Some of the organizations that are expected to be in attendance PURCHASE TWO TAPAS & THE THIRD IS FREE • Valid on third tapas of equal or lesser value • Max of three coupons per table please • Meat & Cheese plate excluded from offer • Not valid with any other offer • Dine-in only please • Please present coupon Valid thru May 31st, 2017 710BodegaParkCity.com • 710 Main Street, Park City • 435.649.6979 NOW OPEN AT 5:30PM FOR THE SUMMER SEASON! 2 FOR 1 ENTREES WITH APPETIZER PURCHASE • Valid on second entrèe of equal or lesser value • Max of three coupons per table please • Not valid with any other offer • Dine-in only please • Please present coupon Valid thru May 31st, 2017 BuonaVitaParkCity.com • 804 Main Street, Park City • 435.649.1336 are Park City Municipal, Summit County Transportation, Basin Recreation, Summit Land Conservancy, South Summit Trails Foundation, Wasatch Trails Alliance and Utah Olympic Park. The open-house-style event will begin at 5:30 p.m., and guests are welcome to come and go as they please. There will be complimentary movie-themed refreshments, such as hot dogs and popcorn, as well as a cash bar. All proceeds spent at the bar will go to the Mountain Trails Foundation. Each organization will bring with it a summer agenda. From future trail openings to current conditions to the new e-bike program set to open in Summit County, a lot will be covered at Mountain Madness. “This is basically an attempt to get people in one room and get them as much information about trails and what’s important out there,” Sturgis said. “It’s a chance to just get here, talk about stuff and see stuff that maybe is going to be exciting. Some of it is futuristic. “People like to ask about it and hear about it. We’ll be there to talk about it all.” After the 5:30 p.m. meet-andgreet, Mountain Trails will begin to show bike-centric movies at 7 p.m. The films will screen until roughly 9 p.m. Sturgis estimates roughly 12 adventure short films, around 10-15 minutes each, will be shown. The movies, like the refreshments, are free. “The coolest part is that it is a free event for the public to interface with trails organizations from all over the region,” Smith said. This event is coming right in the nick of time, too, as the area’s temperatures continue to rise with summer nearly here. Ruts suck, as riders always say, and they were initial issue as the seasons transitioned from winter to spring. It was easy for users to go out during mud seasons and ruin certain portions of wet trails. Nearly June, the trails are mostly dry and ruts are no longer a worry, for the most part. “Despite even [Wednesday night’s] rain, what we’re seeing is rapid drying,” Sturgis said. “There was still moisture there a month ago, so the moisture wasn’t necessarily percolated into the ground. Now, we’re seeing way faster drying. Even [Thursday], I bet you by 2-3 o’clock, you can go out and you’ll find very few puddles out there.” Mountain Madness is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m and will run until 9 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel. The event will feature free food, free movies, a cash bar and endless information on everything trails in Park City. Continued from B-1 shirt.
