Two-hundred athletes and several hundred spectators gathered at the base of PCMR’s race arena to contest giant slalom, slalom and dual races over the three-day event. Racers qualified for the championship based on their results over the season, with athletes selected equally from the IMD South Series of Utah and the IMD North Series of Wyoming and Idaho. Park City Ski Team qualified almost all its U12 athletes, generating over half of Utah’s championship team. Races kicked off on Friday in classic spring conditions under bluebird skies and atop crisp corduroy snow. Temperatures rose quickly to highs in the mid-60s, and the course softened throughout the day. On Friday, racers contested in the giant slalom, with a combined two-run time determining winners. For the U10 Women’s races, Beatrice Martin of Snowbird placed first. Top PCST athletes included Talise Larsh (third) and Mackenzie Meirowitz (13th). Among U12 Women, Elisabeth Bocock of Snowbird posted the fastest time. Park City Ski Team racers Skylar Sheppard (third) and Annika Hunt (fourth) took Continued from B-1 PCHS water polo tion 3A crown this season. Only the top eight racers in each division qualified to continue to the afternoon ladders, with finalists undertaking a grueling test of up to eight consecutive race runs. Park City Ski Team athletes won three of the four dual divisions contested. On Sunday afternoon, Park City’s U12/U10 championship team gathered for its last raceday Team Circle of the season. Coaches praised athletes’ teamwork, sportsmanship and spirit, as well as congratulated the team as a whole for its performance over the weekend. Race crew, parents and athletes were all thanked for their hospitality as hosts of a festive and well run Intermountain Division Championship event. Park City Ski Team will continue training until PCMR lifts close in April, and then prepare for summer camps at Mammoth, California, and Mt. Hood, Oregon. Kearns is one team Park City won’t see during the postseason, but sees plenty of prior to it. The program, led by Brad Peercy, has been on top of the water polo game for the last decade and hasn’t lost a single game the last five seasons. A state championship would be nice for Park City, but beating Kearns might be even sweeter. The Miners got their chance to do so on Tuesday evening before this paper’s print time, when they traveled to Kearns. “We spent all day in practice working on the stuff that [Kearns] beat us on,” Whipple said. “[Beating Kearns on Tuesday] is the goal.” The teams will also play their second game in two nights by returning to Park City’s home pool at Ecker Hill Middle School to host Brighton on Wednesday evening. The girls’ game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., while the boys will follow at 7:30 p.m. The Dog Spa Park City LLC Experienced, quiet pleasant environment Your dog will NOT sit in a kennel $6 off Bath & Brush $8 off Bath & Haircut or Free Upgrade Laura Tacheny 801-598-1007 8178 Gorgoza Pines Rd , Suite I www.DogSpaParkCity.com DogSpaParkLLC | Dog Spa Park City you care so do we. about your business.
