Show The Park Record C-6 Wed/Thurs/Fri, January 11-13, 2017 calendar of music & events happening this week Wednesday, Jan. 11 Sundance Film Festival Utah Local’s Individual Tickets Individual Sundance Film Festival tickets for Utah residents go on sale on a first-come, firstserved basis at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, and ends at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13. Locals can purchase a maximum of 20 tickets, with a limit of four tickets per screening. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.sundance.org/festivals/sundance-film-festival/get-tickets. Tickets for Park City screenings from Jan. 19 to 24 are $25. Tickets for screenings in Salt Lake City are $20. Tickets for the rest of the Park City screenings during the second half of the festival are $20. The Wine Exchange at Jeremy Ranch Clubhouse Park City Wince Club will host The Wine Exchange, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Jeremy Ranch Clubhouse. The event will pair three wines with soups, salads, bread and dessert. The fun will continue with a wine exchange, which is based on the white elephant gift exchange. Attendees are encouraged to bring a wrapped bottled of wine for the exchange. Prizes for best-dressed bottles will be given out. Park City Social Dance Club The Park City Social Dance Club, which operates under the BallroomUtah umbrella, is now holding Wednesday classes at 7:30 p.m. at the Basin Recreation Fieldhouse, 1388 Center Drive at Kimball Junction. Debuting with 1984’s “No Kinda Dancer,” the Houston native has recorded 18 full-length albums for both independent and major record labels. His songs have also been covered by several different artists from the country and folk music scenes: including George Strait, Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett, The Highwaymen, Nanci Griffith and the Dixie Chicks. Park City Film Series: ‘Underwater Dreams’ The Park City Film Series’ Reel Community Series program will present a free screening of Mary Mazzio’s documentary “Underwater Dreams,” not rated, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Park City Library’s Jim Santy Auditorium, 1255 Park Ave. Presented in partnership with the Park City Education Foundation, “Underwater Dreams” is a story of how the sons of undocumented Mexican immigrants learned how to build an underwater robot from Home Depot parts, and defeat engineering powerhouse MIT in the process. The competition, however, was only the beginning. These boys forged a legacy that could not have been imagined. Film will be followed by a panel discussion. Code Club at the Park City Library A code club meets Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Park City Library, 1255 Park Ave. The club learns how to program computers, which helps them create their own video games and websites, and in the process, gain useful technology skills. This program was funded in part through a grant from Utah State Library Division, Department of Heritage and Arts, and from the Institute of Museum and Library Services which administers the Library Services and Technology Act. Park City Film Series: ‘Loving’ The Park City Film Series will screen Jeff Nichols’ “Loving,” rated PG-13, from Friday, Jan. 13, through Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Park City Library’s Jim Santy Auditorium, 1255 Park Ave. Friday’s and Saturday’s screenings will start at 8 p.m. Sunday’s screening will start at 6 p.m. “Loving” is a feature about the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving, portrayed by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case -- Loving Vs. Virginia -- went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry. Meet the Avalanche Dogs Canyons Village will present its avalanche rescue dogs at 4:30 p.m. every Friday and through April 16 at the Ski Beach. Park City Film Series: ‘Aunt Hilda (Tante Hilda)’ The Park City Film Series will present a free screening of Benoit Chieux and Jacques-Remy Girerd’s “Aunt Hilda (Tante Hilda),” not rated, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Park City Library’s Jim Santy Auditorium, 1255 Park Ave. The screening is part of the Park City Film Series’ Dual Language Immersion program. Hilda lives high above the city, happily at home with tens of thousands of rare and luscious plants in her greenhouse palace. But down below, a new, genetically modified super-grain threatens to disrupt the delicate natural harmony. Hilda must help the Earth save itself from a very colorful biological mayhem.
