She previously served as the restaurant’s sous chef. “Rachel’s dedication to quality and creative approach in the kitchen made her a natural fit for The St. Regis Deer Valley,” said Edward Shapard, general manager of the hotel, in the release. “We are delighted to be able share her talent with our guests.” SUMMER STAYS HOT FOR WESTERN RESORT TOWNS Occupancy rates have continued to boom for the resort towns whose performances are tracked by DestiMetrics, a firm that monitors data for 19 Western mountain destinations, including Park City. According to a press release, occupancy for the summer was up 7.4 percent as of the end of July -- nearing winter levels -- with revenues up 14.3 percent. “As we track occupancy figures that are likely to set another record in the summer of 2016, we’ll look for that gap between summer and winter occupancy to get even closer,” said Ralf Garrison, director of DestiMetrics, in the release. CONSUMER INDEX RISES ALONG WASATCH FRONT The Zions Bank Wasatch Front Consumer Price Index rose 0.1 percent from June to July. According to a press release, the index has grown 1.0 percent over the last year, below the Federal Reserve’s national inflation target of 2 percent. And to Tim Smith, a lawyer at the Jones Waldo Law Firm who specializes in intellectual property, that’s a very good thing. The fervor surrounding the dispute involving Vail Resorts, City Hall and dozens of businesses that use “Park City” in their names has been one of the most notable stories of the year. With Smith scheduled to lead a Park City Chamber/Bureau educational workshop for members about trademarks on Wednesday, he’s pleased the dispute has piqued interest in town on the topic. The more businesses that are exploring trademarks, he said, the better. “I think you could see that as a silver lining,” he said. “It got people thinking about it. You have a lot of things that have ‘Park City’ in the name in town, so it gives people some food for thought.” Smith intends to cover a variety of trademark-related topics during the workshop. From there, he will explain what it means to have trademarks, why they’re valuable and what businesses can do to protect theirs. “I think there’s a buzz in the community about, ‘What does this trademark stuff mean?’” he said. “I want them to understand what the whole system is about and why trademarks are important.” Ryan Cray, member services manager at the Chamber/Bureau, said the orPlease see Trademark, A-16 Holdings in Treasure Mountain Inn up for grabs With help of other owners, a buyer could redevelop the property By BUBBA BROWN The Park Record The future of the Treasure Mountain Inn, an anchor of upper Main Street and one of Park City’s most prominent properties, is up for grabs. Andy Beerman and his wife Thea Leonard, who have been the face of the inn for more than a decade, recently made public their intention to sell both their lodging company that operates the historic condominium hotel and their roughly 30-percent stake in the property itself. They said in an interview with The Park Record that they been contemplating putting their holdings on the market for more than a year and hope summer pledge drive & ONliNe AuCTiON AuguST 22-25, 2016* to line up a buyer soon. “We’ve made a soft deadline for ourselves by after the winter, next spring, when we’d like to be in position to transition out,” Beerman said. “But we’re going to take our time to do it right.” A potential sale makes the future of the inn murky. Beerman and Leonard own only roughly 30 percent of its condo and commercial space, so any person or company that buys their stake would not be able to make major changes or redevelop the property without building a coalition of support from the other owners. Such a coalition is possible, however, and Leonard speculated that a developer with a big vision could turn the property into something entirely different -- potentially even razing the building, which was built in the 1960s and sits on just less than an acre of land, and constructing something new. “It depends who buys our position,” Please see Inn, A-17 BACK ALLEY BASH Friday August 26th 5-9 pm Town Lift Plaza NeW pledge Free FridAy!
