KSL-TV reports that wildlife officials say the fire can heat up the water enough to cause problems for fish, and ash from extinguished fires can choke the fish. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources says officers on Monday removed Bonneville Cutthroat Trout from a small creek northeast of Beaver to shield them from a fire caused by lightning in Fishlake National Forest. Biologist Mike Hadley says officials had to get special permission from the Forest Service for the project. Hadley says the biologists wore waders and carried electric shock rods to stun the fish and scoop them into buckets. They then had to carry them in special saddle bags out of the rugged canyon.
