Stiteler, who weighs only about 140 pounds, said he didn't know his attacker, a "pretty good size" man. The coach had just stepped out of an airport limousine and was walking toward the hotel entrance, he said, when "I heard someone whistle and I looked around." Stiteler continued: "It was getting dark and I saw a man standing in the street. He said, 'Come here a minute.' I walked back to him. He didn't talk. He just slugged me. I didn't have time, to notice anything about him, except that he was pretty good size." The coach's face was tut and bruised. Stiteler told the United Press, however, he wouldnt press charges even if his attacker were located. Houston police who had no formal report on the incident were told, nevertheless by Chief L. D. Morrison to make an investigation and "clean it up quickly."
