Show Geraldine Giraud Becomes Mrs. Cliarles H. Scott At Opentpuse . ; ' . ' "X:' s Mrs. Ruth Louis Such a beautiful world sine .the rain. Looking out of .the attic window here at The Last Resort I get a positive glow -- then it's time for the news again. HOWEVER, no one in this valley ahould compalin, about the weather we have had. My sister Gertrude has written about the weather they have run into on their way to Michigan. Rain and flood, or drouth. In Kansas City there was water at the street intersection car-hodeep. (This aounds more like Los Angeles on any day in the winter months.) od Has been close to freezing in Michigan again. Went down town. A little matodds and ends ter of for the youngest moppet. Bought myself a pair of nice black shoes. Paid more than I should, and now I will have to buy a cheaper pair to wear for running around so I can save the expensive pair. Tell me dearie, do you do this sort of thing?' I can comfort myself with the fact that I haven't bought a pair of black shoes for years literally. It's time. Saw a lot of pretty things down town. Corduroy and velveteen which I love. Wore a ten-yeold black velveteen skirt-mothan ten years old as it was made in '39 - and everyone thought it was brandI new. .or wore sit. did they? Anyhoo, Looked at some hats. Just looked, you understand. They are awful. When the manufacturers don't know just what to do with these things they call hats, they stick on an improbable looking feather and call it done. I've seen better looking hats under the wheels of truck. Oh, well, there's one thing about it. I don't have to buy them. If they were showing some good stainless steel shrapnel helmets it would be more to the point, for heaven's sake. And better looking too. " pre-scho- ol ar re . Well, I see by the paper that quote: "A top psychologist" unquote at Pennsylvania state College believes that many of us are potential geniuses and don't know it. Another learned doctor from California says, quote:" There has been i n sufficient recognition of the possibility that creative talents extend far beyond the boundaries of the intellectual possibilities." Unquote. In other words creative talents have nothing to do with brains, and I am a living example of it. I don't know from nothing but talent I've got. Putting all persiflage aside, I will go even further and say that the neglect of talent in this world, and most particularly in this country is appalling. There should be places for the better Partridge than .average person to go and follow his bent, whatever it is, and no matter how silly it may look to you and me dearie. Don't bother to write in and tell me what a cruel old witch I am for saying that we should expend more money on the brilliant than the dull, for I know it already. We must, being civilized, take care of those who cannot take care of themselves, but if we are going to win out in the bitter and endless fight to stay alive as a nation, we must extend at least the courtesy we give our bums, to the brilliant people who could if anyone to civilization and progress. No one knows what could be contributed by brilliant minds which now, lonely and misunderstood, fall into the clutches of the Hitlers and the Stalins of this world-an- d for no more reason than they are made welcome, and recognized for what they are, instead of being pointed out as s tr a n g e creatures, too big for their boots. They ARE too big for their boots, God help them.
