Show 12 HERALD DAILY Breakfast Continued from Bl still aren't being eaten. "The average American eats less than one serving of whole grains a day," said Bonnie Liebman, director of nutrition at the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest, in a news release. "Yet it would be hard to find an American who doesnt know that people need to eat more of them." Joyce Bunderson, president of Dr. Grandma's Whole Grain Foods, a Provo-base- d company that sells whole-graimuffin and pancake mixes, said people often stay away from whole grain products because they don't always taste as good as the more common refined or enriched cereals and breads. "A lot of whole-grai- n products taste like cardboard and aren't so great," Bunderson said. "If it doesn't taste good people aren't going to eat it very often." But Bunderson has found that the right product, or the right recipe, can make a batch of whole-grai- n pancakes taste even better than the white flour variety all the while providing more nutrients and health benefits. "Whole grains help control weight gain, and help people lose weight," Bunderson said. "It's because you get full faster and stay full longer when you eat them ... The word has gotten out and a lot of people are I also realizing the benefits to reducing cancer and heart disease with whole grains." When shopping for whole grains, Bunderson said to make sure the product says M is made from 100 percent whole wheat. "There are a lot of products now ... that make claims that they are made with whole grains but they are primarily made from processed white Easy Does It Continued from Bl could be appetizers, soups or seasonal recipes, she said. Besides me, I mean. Traditional lasagna, with its layers of rich cheeses, sauces and noodles, often strikes me as stodgy and dull. But the lasagna rolls version here is lighter, brighter and more interesting. It's adapted from an old Sunset magazine recipe; I www.birntbrownauto.com wwwV.cougarblu M II think the original called for the lasagna rolls to be baked in whipping cream enriched with a joh of pesto. I ate it that way precisely once; it was swooningry good, but my conscience would never let me prepare it that way again. So I stole the preparation style, added some spinach to up the nutrients, cut way back on the cheese and used tomato sauce instead of whipping cream to cover the rolls.
