I have come to appreciate the Australian band's timeless, upbeat rock Sept. 10, 1970. That his music remains so revered today, more than 30 years after his passing, is a testament to his influence. This CD touches on all the Hendrix classics, from the groundbreaking "Purple Haze" and his incendiary reinterpretation of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower," to the psychedelic shuffle of "Hey Joe" and his inf performance of "The Star Span-- . The release yielded one of my favorites, "Never Tear Us Apart," an endearing ballad that allows for great opportunities to play air guitar. "The Stairs" is beautiful and also a favorite, but it's divergently slower and more airy than the others, with lots of strings and piano. The moral of the story is that even if you know nothing at all about INXS, you can still listen to (and even mistakenly purchase) this album and appreciate it. Ashley Banks 1994 Social Distortion, "Live at the Roxy" This is another example of how punk bands are great live entertainment. Recorded in the famed Los Angeles club, "Live at the Roxy" r shows the energy and passion of Social Distortion. Frontman Mike Ness sings with his husky voice about the hard times in songs such as "Bad Luck" and "Story of My Life." Live albums are also great because they allow listeners to catch a piece of the band's personality. And punk bands usually aren't lacking in that department . Ness takes jabs at the crowd and banters a bit between a few songs. But the highlight, by far, of this album is the last track, a cover of the great Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire." It'll get you all fired up. Jessica Eyre 467-563- LO-- CAFE Live music venue. 127 at 7:30. 135 N. Main St., Spanish Fork. Sponsored by the Spanish Fork Arts Council. Shows are $5. 798-765- S.
