After BYU scored on its first drive, Baylor tried three running plays for nine yards and punted. BYU scored about 2'a minutes later. Baylor then put together a drive to cut the score to 14-- but after that, the Cougar defense stopped Baylor on the rest of its drives in the first half (drives ended on Interception, punt, punt, downs) and the Cougars led 34-- 7 at the half. Neither team did much early in the third quarter, but a Leon White interception at the Baylor 25, which he returned to the 15, set up a Cougar TD that ended any suspense in the game. I Other key playsstats you may have forgotten: Baylor won the toss and elected to defer its choice until the second half, reasoning that putting its defense on the field first would be a smart move. The Cougars foiled that strategy, opening the game with a sweep by Lakei Heimuli. Eight plays later, the Cougars were in the end zone thanks to a two-yar- d pass from Robbie Bosco to Glen Kozlowski This was a breakout game for junior college transfer running back Robert Parker, who had 11 carries for 131 yards. The Bears blocked two PAT attempts by BYU. The BYU defense had four interceptions. I BYU's record: The Cougars with a are winning streak. . I The impact Beginning the week after this game, the e Cougars got at least one vote in the UH coaches poll every week. I Quote of the game: "I hope ' you're really that good or we're not that bad." But Beck was sacked for a loss on first down and after two incomplete passes, Beck was sacked on fourth down to end BYU's chances. A win over Stanford would have put BYU's record at 1 and might have created a whole different tone to the season. Instead, the Cougars were just 26 the rest of the way. But that was last year. This year it's Beck that's hurt and Berry who will likely start. Crowton said he won't play Beck against Stanford unless he's 100 percent. "I don't want to hurry with John," Crowton said. "I felt like we hurried with Matt's injury last year and brought him back too sooa Matt and Jason Beck are getting the reps this week. Timpanogos closed to within 14-ya-rd a touchdown on a run by Lyons with 224 left, and had one last chance to tie the game. But on a play fell short, and the Dons' took a knee to run out the clock. Another sophomore, Jordan Smith had only one catch, but it went for 47 yards and came at a crucial time during the Dons' . on a scoring reception by Austin Heaps, and put together a drive for a potential godhead score.
