Turpin said Project Read is a good opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering. "When I first went to the training for Project Read, I was completely overwhelmed," she said. "I'm hot a teacher, and I have zero background in teaching. But the program is so well designed, anyone can be a tutor." And for Turpin, being a tutor with Project Read is more than just helping someone else learn to read. "I think it's always best to look outside ourselves to see if we can make a difference for someone else. We find meaning in our own life when we're helping someone else," she said.
