The Hansens, Heather and Hollie, told coach Jeff Judkins recently they would be leaving the squad after only completing their freshmen seasons. Heather is finished because of injury, ' white Hollie is through because she doesnt want to play without her sister. "We're disappointed because they're great young women and they would've played a lot this year," Judkins said. Heather Hansen had been suffering from a hereditary condition that has caused pain because two vertebrae are not properly aligned. That has also led to numbness in her right teg. Continu- ing to play basketball was virtually im- possible. Doctors warned the condition, known as spondylolisthesis, an injury that is caused by overuse, has allowed and methods to fuse the spine. They all involve placement of a bone graft between the vertebrae. BYU trainer Carolyn Billings was one of the medical experts, which included a local neurosurgeon, who helped Heather Hansen reach a conclusion to her future. Billings said it was likely that Hansen would've been able to continue playing, but it became a question of risk and reward. "If you had asked me before last season which game I was most looking forward to, it would have been Notre Dame. But my hand was broken and I didn't get to play. "I think of starting as a team thing, not just for me.
