Utah County commissioners on Tuesday voted 1 to impose the tax to fund 27 state road projects, and then OK'd the wording that ' will appear on the ballot Nov. 2. County residents will now vote on the tax, and if they approve it, commissioners wUl decide if the tax will actually be imposed steps all required by state law. If voters don't approve it, the issue dies. "It's a long process," said Kent Sundberg, a chief deputy county attorney, about the state law. "It's fairly convoluted." The tax, if passed, would generate between.$10 million and $12 million per year. The tax has opponents, though. The Utah Taxpayers Association is against it. And the Mountainland Association of Governments, Utah Transit Authority and others wanted the county to wait on the tax or funnel some of the proceeds toward transit.
