The Republican Utah County commissioner and his Republican challenger Kirt Love are embroiled in a primary battle that will be decided June 17, and Love has inquired about the propriety of the Taxpayers Association and even some public bodies endorsing him. His inquiries to Jerry Grover, chairman of the Utah County Commission, were referred by Grover to the office. County Attorney's On Friday, Love told The Daily Herald that during the GOP convention April 29, Herbert told delegates the Taxpayers Association endorsed him, and that hurt his efforts to influence delegates. Love claimed his random polling showed he had decided delegates 70 to 75 percent on his side, although there were still many undecided delegates. But Herbert took issue with what Love is convinced he heard. backing Herbert and he wants an opinion from the county attorney. Love said Grover has a policy of not endorsing any candidate, and he said that is the fairest political avenue to follow. Grover has confirmed the policy of "I have not endorsed nor will I endorse any candidate current race or Commission seat "C," Grover says in a May letter to Love, a copy of which was obtained by The Daily Herald. If I'm elected I will not be endorsements making for the either," Love said. Love also said he's sure that at the convention Herbert actually said he had the taxpayer group's endorsement, but he said he is unaware of any recording that could establish that without doubt. "He made the statement that he has the endorseof The ment Utah Association," Taxpayers Love said, adding that the association has since told him it does not endorse candidates. "This is obviously politi- cally motivated," Herbert said of all the furor over endorsements. Herbert also said he has an individual endorsement from Kay Bryson, the Utah County Attorney, and said "I never ' said the Bryson would have had a Association conflict of interest even Taxpayers endorsed me," he said without his endorsement and is expected to refer the Friday.
