Purpose of the blood tests given two per cent of the children before and after the field tests, is to determine effectiveness of the vaccine. Saturday. Dr. Riley Clark, presi dent of the Utah County Medical Society, urged all parentsot; children in the First, Second, and Third Grades, who wish their children to be included in the vaccine tests, to send in imme diately the request forms given them. 'Dangerous7 Utah State Hospital Patient Saws W ay Out of Secu rity Cel I criminally insane fugitive "extremeas described Saturday, ly dangerous" was hunted by peace 'officers on the east footwhile hills overlooking Provo Easter on outings children thronged over the same mountain slopes. The hunted man was William Jl. Jephson. 23, twice red from the Utah State Prison to Utah State Hospital, and twice escaped with the aid of hacksaw blades smuggled into his security cell. Jephson Friday about 9 p. m: jawed through the bars of his cell on the third floor of the hospital, and scrambled down a rope of sheets, according to Dr. Owen P. Ileninger, hospital superintendent. He was- - believed to be hiding somewhere in the east foothills A Saturday. Dr. ileninger said J - t 1 The forms, on which parents or guardians request that their ehil dren be included in the testa, were recently distributed through the schools. Utah County has been a polio epidemic area , for the past iev eral years, and the age group most vulnerable it children in the first three grades, of school. Dr. Clark said Saturday. The volunteer staff conducting the field trials comprises two physicians, three nurses, four Parent' Teacher Association volunteers and teachers, principals and superin tendents of schools. Many of the request forms al ready have been returned, but it is essential that all are mailed . or delivered in person to ioca schools by Monday morning. The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis hopes the trials will include between 500,000 and 1.000.000 children. Utah County has approximately 6000 children in the first three grades of Us public, private and parochial schools. Half and Half One half of the children particioatine uDon written request ot will receive a their Darents trial vaccine against poljo and the other half will get a substance which looks exactly Eke the trial vaccine but has no effect. No one taking part in the trials, not even the medical authorities will know which child receives the vaccine and which receives the substitute.
