Nathaniel ITaws Tanner, judge of the civil division of the city court of Salt Lako City, is a'reccnt entry in the list for the office of judge of the Third judicial district. Judc Tanner is a native of Utah, having been born in Payson, Utah county, in lbiO. Ins lather, Joseph b. Tanner, was one of that section s early settlers and was a son of John Tanner, one of the pioneer's of '48, who firt located in South Cottonwood, Salt Lake county. Mr. Tanner's early training was obtained in the district schools of Payson. He later took a normal course at Brigham Young university, Provo, and taught for one term at Salem and for the two years following at what is now Murdock academy at Beaver. He graduated from the law school of the University of Michigan in 1904 and has since been actively engaged in the profession. For five years he was deputy county clerk of Salt Lake county, during which time he served ns clerk in the court presided over by Judge Morse. Judge Tanner was elected to the bench of the city court in 1912 and has served in both the criminal and civil divisions. The Tanner family is one of the largest and best known families in Utah.
