Show Universal Microfilming Corp, 141 Pierpont Ave. Utah Salt THIS 'tl THAT By Lake Cityl, 5-1- -57 The 0 JAY Overheard on Main St.: "One thing about Christmas . . you can go to the post office most any time and get a little mail, but you never seem to get it all." . Volume XXIII ' n Now that Christmas is over, spring must be on the way. We got a seed catalog today. The dec- orating contest gets bigger and better each year. More homes are decorated this year than ever before, and those who decorated previously added more lights to their displays. Other towns in the valley are taking up the contest idea. Draper had a contest this year and produced a number of outstand- ing decorations. At Riverton the big feature is the community tree. Sandy has some nice ones, but doesn't have the number or the brilliance of some of its neighboring towns. It seems to take the competition of a contest to creat outstanding Christmas scenes and lighting effects. The performance of "The Messiah" at the Tabernacle Sunday afternoon was an outstanding musical accomplishment. Every one of the several hundred performers seemed to do a perfect job, and the Tabernacle is surely the finest place imaginable to present such a performance. Salt Lake can indeed be proud of such a splendid presentation. Vte don't believe we need to remind anyone to tune in the fight next Wednesday evening. And we know the best wishes of the entire community are riding with Gene in the hope that he can fulfill his ambition to bring the championship back to Utah. Fullme- r-Robinson ... A lot Seems kinda funny of Salt Lake people are insisting that small units of government are inefficient and impractical. But at the same time two units of government which have been well organized for years and have every convenience imaginable are getting ready to diversify. If consolidation is so Comgood, why are the State Tax mission and the County Assessor's office breaking up their cozy offices downtown and coming out to six smaller communities around the county? Because they can't handle it all in one place, that's why! And every other department would find out the same thing if they had to handle all the business for the whole county. dog-gone- Congratulations to Pine Street for winning the best lighting contest. Householders living on that street may well be proud of their efforts. And the five outstanding homes were really outstanding. The competition gets more keen in this contest every year, and the judges have a tougher time selecting winners. Happy New Year! Shopper's Purse With $60 Found, Returned to Her Christmas shopper is mighty glad there are honest people in Midvale. Last Thursday Mrs Leon Hone, 420 S. Main, was shopping in the Midvale shopping center and lost her purse. It was picked up by a man and she dosen't know his name turned in at the Walker Bank. Midvale Branch. The bank identified it as Mr? Hone's by a check and other pa pcrs, and phoned her. She hadn't even missed the purse, but was mighty glad to get it back, for it contained $50 in currency and a (10 check. Mrs Hone would like to thank the man who found the purse and turned it in. but doesn't know whom to thank, so she asked the Sentinel to do the Job for her. Thanks.
