Mr Jones said that bank robberies have increased to a point where a pattern is emerging. He said the FBI has found that most bank robberies are by a single bandit with a note and a paper bag, between 1 and 3 p.m. on Fridays. He said that 356,000 cars were stolen in a period, with a value of $308 million. Car thefts are increasing 9 to 11 a year over the number of autos produced. Passing worthless checks is also on the increase. He said that one man in four months bilked merchants out of $100,000 which he gambled away. The speaker pointed out that there is a murder in this country every four minutes, a burglary every 46 seconds, 33 autos stolen each hour, and a serious crime committed every 20 seconds.
