The: cement industry uses some of the largest moving machinery in any industry including 2,000 h. p. motors and the huge rotary kilns in which raw materials are turned into cement clinker. The two kilns at Devil's Sl:de each are 12 ft. by 400 ft. and rotate approximately once per minute. Temperatures of up to 2,700 degrees F. are developed in the kilns. Devil's Slide employes have won recognition for their safety work from the Portland Cement Association, the National Safety Council, the. Utah State Industrial Accident Commission and other organizations interested in industrial , safety. At a recent plant safety party which recognized Devil's Slide employes' fourth consecutive accident-fre- e year, V.- G. Burriss said ceremonies were scheduled near the entrance of the plant beside the Portland Cement Association trophy. This attractive trophy was first awarded to Devil's Slide emrecployes for an accident-fre- e ord in 1950 and was reawarded in 1953, 54, 58, 59, 60 and 61. Over the "1" of the "1,000," which appears atop the trophy, Devil's Slide employees planned to place a fabricated "2" signifying the 2,000 days. The "2" along with a congratulatory letter, was sent by Trident employes to the Devil's Slide em- - room. Mrs John Yourchik, Mur ray and Mrs Ed Jones, Sandy, were hostesses.
