V RESEEDLNG PROGRAM The House this week passed legislation that should have the enthusiastic support of all persons interested in the protection of our forest and range lands and watershed areas. The legislation which, now awaits the signature of President Eisenhower permits the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to cooperate in a reseeding program on the public domain. DOUBLE BENEFIT At present, the Government has nearly one million pounds of hay and pasture seeds in storage. These were purchased under the agricultural price support program and are stored in expensive warehouses at the expense of the taxpayer. The seeds are also in danger of deteriorating. IMPROVE LAND . . . Under the new legislation, these seeds will be transferred to federal agncies and will be used to seed grazing and forest lands. The public benefits two ways. The Government saves their investment in seeds from being wasted by improving the value of the public domain. The seeds to be used have a value of $27 million.
