Bolligcr. The Sandy Fire Department re sponded to 21 fires during 1953 including 9 grass fires; 5 fires in or on buildings; 2 false alarms, and 5 fires outside the city limits. Community Calendars Distributed in Sandy Community Birthday Calendars have been delivered to the many homes in Sandy by the Sandy Lions and Lady Lions and all arc urged to check the calendar frequently and pass along a "Happy Birthday" and anniversary greeting to all Their neighbors and friends. Th Birthday Calendar project is sponsored annualy by the Sandy Lions club, and funds raised arc used by the club to sponsor the annual Christmas tree treat to the many hundreds of children of the Sandy community and also enables the club to make some improve ments in the community. The Lions club has supported city officials in better lighting throughout the community, and improving the crossing on State Street at the raffic light. It also makes possible the awarding of a scholarship at Jordan high school, also the transportation and dona tions to the Boy Scouts of Sandy and also blood donors to the Blood Bank and many other worthwhile projects.
