Hillcrest high football team managed to keep their record intact here Friday, but came vicaway with a hard-earntory over Murray's Spartans who displayed a tremendous second half defensive battle for a partisan Homecoming crowd. The Huskie victory, by 21-- 6, upped the Hillcrest chain to eight straight, while Murray evened the season's mark with four wins and as many losses. the Tomorrow (Friday) Spartans wind up the season by hosting Judge. Starting time for the game has been moved up to 2;30 due to the change from daylight to standard time. In Friday's Homecoming tilt, Hillcrest took the open- ing kickoff and methodically moved up field, in a drive that was thwarted after eight plays by a fumble. Shane Mosher and Dan Holladay shouldered the. load in the Husky ground game during the push, but it was a fumble by Holladay that ended the threat. Pouncing on the loose ball for Murray was Lynn Hoggan just 20 yards out from the end zone. Deep in their own territory, the Spartans moved cautiously, punting after making little yardage. Hillcrest launched a touchdown drive from its own 40, covering the distance in eight plays. Craig Boogard delayed the Husky score when he tackled Holladay from behind on the 23. A Clipping penalty set the visitors back to the 40. But the Huskies kept on punching and with 2:20 left in the first quarter, Mosher circled right end from four yards out for the score. After Murray could not move effectively and was forced to punt, Hillcrest started again a goalward push that ended in a fumble. The Huskies had covered 40 yards when Murray's Boogard fell ed on a fumble following a pass completion at the Murray 20. But on Murray's second play, a Spartan fumble went; over to Hillcrest at the 25.! On the third play, Holladay: rambled eight yards to pay- -j dirt and the kick made it; 14-- 0 with 7:11 left in the second stanza. ah exuuaugt: 01 punis en- -; witn Murray's Bob suea, Marsh setting the Huskies back on their own 15 with a good boot. Although the Hillcrest lads had their back to the wall, they took to the air, dropping an scoringi bomb on the first play. Jeff K jar's aerial hit Holladay about midfield and the senior speedster was chased to the end zone. The PAT attempt again was good, leaving the Spartans behind 21-- 0 with only) 1:10 left in the half. But the Murray lads met! the challenge of fading time. After one pass fell, incomplete, Bill Schwich found Brad Freeze at Hillcrest's 45 and the senior end the Husky simply Hilpursuers. Charging lcrest linemen blocked a placement attempt by Gary Sanders. The second half of play found both clubs displaying fierce defensive action, Mur ray's forward wall allowing the Husky offense no closer than the 35. Murray did manage one scoring threat in the final stanza, marching to the Hillcrest 11 before losing possession on downs.
