It smothered early-seasGranite title hopes and at the same time put the Huskies in the driver's seat of Region Three's division one. Brisk play execution, a rugged defense and the running Dan Holladay of was the formula for Husky success. Timid defensive line play and virtually no down-fie- ld blocking on offense was Granite's contribution to its own downfall. Tomorrow (Friday), Coach Darold Simmons' squad will move from frying pan to fire against the division's only other unbeaten team, Judge. The Bulldogs, who whitewashed Granger 22-- 0 in an opener, added Kearns to the list of victims 13-- 7 on Friday. But neither game was so impressive as to make Farmer faithful believe their young squad couldn't win the vital clash tomorrow. Holladay, a thorn in Farmer sides on both offense and defense, stunned the 5,000-plcrowd by scoring on the first scrimmage play of Friday night's fracas. He broke over his own right side, found daylight and outran Granite desideline fenders on an rd dash. Jeff Arnell booted the ic first of his three conversion kicks and with only 32 seconds gone It was 0. Though the quick score set the Farmers back on their heels, they didn't collapse. The third period was no different and halfway through the fourth, Barry Sceili whipped fourth-dow- n a pass to Richards on the Husky 12 and the fleet Farmer back raced in with the score. The Husky forward wall smothered Gordon Cleaves' conversion attempt, though, and it was 14-- 6 with 5:43 left. The fine punting of Chuck Bowden set the stage for the score by bottling Hillcrest deep in its own territory. A bad snap on a fourth-dow- n punt attempt by the Huskies enabled Stan Stilwell to recover and gave Granite its chance. But before it came on the fourth-dow- n aerial, the Farmers had been shoved back 12 yards to the 26. Though the decision was virtually clinched, Hillcrest erased any lingering doubt by putting together a sustained drive after the ensuing kick' off.
