In a game marred by fumbles, Millard handed Cyprus its second straight loss of the season Friday, in a gome played on the Pirate turf. A light rain storm kept the pigskin slippery and resulted in the Magna eleven lossing the ball four times on funbles and the visitors three times. THE EAGLES scored in the opening minutes of the first quarter when they recovered an errant center pass by Cyprus on the Pirates line. The charges of Coach Taft Watts punched the ball across the goal line in three plays and then ran the extra point across for a 0 lead. THE TWO CLUBS battled on even terms until the final minute of play in the half when the Eagles intercepted a Cyprus aerial and returned it 25 yards to the Magna stripe. On their second play, the Millard crew tallied on a pass play. The Eagles again ran the ball across the goal for the extra point to gain a 14-- 0 edge at intermission. The Spartans edged past the to chalk up their second straight visitors, 14-- 7, by Mike Killlan Murray. Displaying a stout defense, Murray high dumped a fighting Bonneville squad, 14-Friday afternoon in a tilt played on the Spartan field. It was the second win of the season for the undefeated squad of Coach Ray Oliverson. The visiting Lakers proved to be a tough foe for the Murrayites to defeat. ALTHOUGH the Ogden school opened its doors for the first time this year, they proved Friday they will be rough on opponents during the year. In the end it was the defensive eleven of the Spartans which carried the squad to victory. The Murray gridders recovered three fumbles and picked off two aerials to thwart the Bonneville attack. THE SPARTAN offensive machine sputtered throughout ,the game. The opening quarter saw the host club unable to launch a sustained drive of any type as the Murrayites lost the ball once on a fumble and another time on an Interception. A pass play from quarterback Ron Haun to halfback Dennis Sagendorf was the big gainer in the drive. The Spartans moved inside the Lakers' 10 on an aerial from Haun to Sagendorf which was good for 10 yards. Officials described it this way: WITH SECONDS remaining in the game, Murray was offside on the Spartan stripe and the Lakers on the move. While the penalty was being inflicted, the gun popped. A game cannot end in such a dead ball situation as this, how ever and officials awarded Bonneville an extra play. Laker coaches questioned what was happening, bo the referee jogged to the sidelines to explain.
