Like radio's early days, TV has had some rather rough going in getting the overall calibre of its programming up to what the public might babe-in-ar- term ' I ' desire-abl- e viewing. It now looks as if each passing year has seen a n improvem e n t I in everything from news presentatio n s to special events. Of course, TV is a long way from being out of the woods yet. It fitill has a baker's dozen of mystery programs that are anything but a good influence on the younger set. But then radio had - - and has - - its soap operas. The broad vistas spreading before television are endless. It's future programs are limited only by the imagination of the writers and producers. Without question it is destined to take place among the great mediums of public information and properly developed could someday far exceed any other influence upon the American public. For that reason it can be for given its early blunders. We must all crawl before we can walk. Our high school columnist Diane Black last week outlined several of the world's corniest Jokes. They qualified for the honor all right. But apparently Diane never heard of this one: "Where do you work?" "At the shirt factory." "Why aren't you working to- day?"
