Show Mason and Dixon Line The Mason and Dixon line be. tween Pennsylvania and Maryland takes the name of the two English surveyors, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon, who started the survey. They worked from 1736 to 1767, when they were stopped by Indians, 244 miles from the Delaware river. The survey was completed by others. Its exact latitude is 39 degrees 43 minutes 26.3 seconds. This line was popularly accepted as the demarcation between slave and free territory and is currently referred to as the dividing line between the North and South. Silk Cotton Tree a Giant The silk cotton tree, which grows in the island of Jamaica, Is one of the world's giants. Its branches extend horizontally, and each of them would be considered a good-sizetree in itself. In order to support the weight of the branches nature has supplied these trees with buttresses which project laterally from the trunk. These buttresses are so large that a man can shelter himself between two of them. tar First All - United States 'Old Glory' Trimming Stars Chaplin s Find I 'Mrmml itm 0& U v ci X I n yll rfc!jf4 JV 'J if wj t I y J - t"y ) c American-manufacture- Dealtr fleet-foote- Say!: Any man can make a speech, but a speech is seldom the making of him. A number of other actors, also big ones, haven't been making pictures either. Not that she hasn't been offered roles that she really wanted to play. But the companies who sent for her wanted to cut her salary to the bone. These days the big money is likely, it seems, to ga to newcomers to the screen foreign importations, cute girls who are being built up. Some of the big players have to swallow their pride, and do, and take the cut; others stay off the screen. Maybe that's why you've been missing some of your favorites. Miss Pitts has two opportunities to make her debut in New York as an actress; one in a musical show that, because of its authors, Is practically sure to be a hit, the other In a play.
