Louis Marcus Candidate for Re-electi- as on MAYOR of Salt Lake City THERE are many things that the present Mayor, Louis Marcus, is interested in for the benefit of Salt Lake City and vicinity, and it is essential that the efforts already progressing be firmly established. Among these are: the water situation, the amount of money available for City government expenses, without ip creased property taxes. OKi CHIEF OF POLICE Under Com. John M. Knight The Mayor served during the Concerning Dr- - Sol Nation wide economic depression and also when the City and State was forced to cope with a water famine. His chief interest has been in City revenue. Mayor Marcus has made a study of the total taxes paid by Salt Lake City residents, and the amount available for the City government. He led a movement among Utah's cities which has resulted in a demand for additional revenue without resorting to increased property taxes, especially for the City's street department, and for health and charity purposes. In the department division of the City government, the Mayor is commissioner of finance and public affairs. He is chairman of the entire Commission and through his ex ecutive ability has harmonized all departments of the city gov ernment so that all departments have kept within their budgets, has saved the taxpayers many thousands of dollars and has planned to so continue. . xann Chief of Police William L. ? entered ih e department rt an earned for himself has Payne l 1935' being excellent reputation, and rightly " too.
