Under the new structure, maintenance specialists currently assigned to operations and logistics will be reassigned to a newly created maintenance group. Logistics plans functions will transfer to a newly created Logistics Readiness Squadron. Aerial port squadrons will be subordinate units under a Mission Support Group. AFRC has a year from October 2002 to implement the standard Air Force wing structure. "We'll take our time to ensure those changes cause the minimum amount of turmoil," said Maj. Gen. John J. Batbie Jr., AFRC vice commander. "There should be little need for variation or exception. Change is always difficult and disruptive. Our challenge at all levels of Air Force Reserve Command is to embrace the Air Force changes and do everything to make this a positive, fluid change."
