Show Hilltop Timet April 11 2002 , Tax deadline extended for military in Afghanistan by Kelley E. England and Capt. Chad Center changes hours The Jespersen Legal Assistance Hill Tax With the end of tax season fast approaching, Center has made a few changes to its operating hours. Through today, the center will accept walk ins only from 0 11:30 p.m. On Monday, walk ins will be accepted from 1 1 a.m.-- 4 p.m. If the center gets backlogged, some clients will be turned away. After Monday, business will be by appointment only. Due to recent tax law changes regarding Depreciation and Employee Business Expenses, the Hill Tax Center cannot prepare taxes that require a Schedule E (Rental Property) or Form 2106 (Employee Business Expenses). The deadline for filing a federal tax return, paying any tax owed and filing a refund claim is automatically extended for people serving in a combat zone. This applies to members of the Armed Forces, as well as Red Cross personnel, accredited correspondents and civilians under the direction of the Armed Forces in support of the Armed Forces. The Internal Revenue Service recently issued guidance on the relief that the tax law provides to troops serving in Afghanistan zones. Members of the U.S. Armed Forces and support personnel, serving in the combat zone, and their spouses, won't have to file their 2001 federal income tax returns until at least 180 days after they leave the combat zone area. In addition, no interest or penalties will be added to the tax due. President George W. Bush declared Afghanistan and its airspace to be a combat zone, starting on Sept. 19,2001. Service outside Afghanistan is considered to be in a combat zone if it is in a country where the Department of Defense has certified that such service is in direct support of military operations in the combat zone and qualifies the person for special military pay for duty subject to hostile force or imminent danger. a.m.-4:3- To date, the Defense Department has certified that service in Jordan, Pakistan and Tajikistan on or after Sept. 19, 2001, and service in Kyrgystan and Uzbekistan on or after Oct 1, 2001, qualifies. In addition to an extension of time to file the 2001 federal income tax return, the IRS will also suspend all tax return examinations and actions to collect back taxes owed by these taxpayers before 2001 until at least 180 days after the taxpayer leaves the combat zone. During this suspension, no interest or penalties will be added to the tax due. the by Bamble Beklns License needed for child care e MMWM.I1I1 WIS IVJMIUS 111 I Dreams really can Try Va...
