Each of you serves in the noble tradition that was begun by these heroes. As we recall the resounding victory that you and our coalition partners achieved in the PerA strated. As we celebrate the day on which our nation was born, I want to thank each of you for maintaining and protecting our republic. Your devotion to duty and your commitment to the cause of freedom have set a standard of excellence to which all Americans can aspire. I wish each of you and your families a safe and happy Independence Day. Many have fought and given their lives so that we can enjoy the blessings of liberty we hold so dear. It is truly a most important day in the history of our great nation. Our commander in chief and secretary of defense have praised all of you for the victory effort in the recent conflict in the Persian Gulf. I wholeheartedly join in that praise. The people at Hill AFB contributed immensely to that victory. This year, we are hosting a welcome home celebration at Centennial Park to salute the men and women, both military and civilian, who supported Operation Desert Storm. I invite each of you to come for the holiday festivities. It is a great opportunity for families to be together. I commend every one of you for your continued dedication and sacrifice and I wish you a great Fourth of July for 1991. Commander AFLC ALC he Fourth of July, or Independence Day, is a special day for all of us. It is a day to focus on the principles on Secretary, Chief of Staff Donald B. Rice Secretary of the Air Force America declared its independence, then had to back up that declaration with courage, strength and sacrifice. Today, you who serve this country in uniform preserve the precious legacy of freedom our forefathers fought to secure. A few months ago, our resolve as a nation was tested during Operation Desert Storm. The victory we achieved reflected your readiness, your determination and your profes- - - Ogden very Fourth of July, we commemorate our freedom and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. But this year, we have extra reason to celebrate with the military success in Operation Desert Storm and the triumphant return of our people from the desert battlefields of the Mideast. Liberating Kuwait served to strengthen our conviction that all people should be free. We couldn't be more proud of our men and women in uniform serving in the Gulf and around the world. We wish you all a safe and happy Fourth of July. Today, as you stand duty here at home and around the globe, all Americans gratefully acknowledge the sacrifices that you have made and continue to make for the sake of our country.
