Dielman, 6545th Test Group com- mander, prefers to leave things on a high note. That's why he decided, after almost 26 years, to end his Air Force career with his assignment at Hill AFB, Colonel Dielman said. "Hill is fantastic as a last assignment," he said. "Everyone from General Thompson (Maj. Gen. Dale V. Thompson Jr., Ogden Air Logistics Center commander) on down has made us feel like an Air Force Logistics Command unit (the 6545th is part of Air Force Systems Command). The bottom line is that it's a team effort here. "This is such a great job in such a beautiful location," Colonel Dielman said. "It makes it difficult to leave, I'm having so much fun here." The colonel came to Hill in 1987 as deputy commander of the 6545th and became commander the following year. The 6545th has a diverse mission and Colonel Dielman has a wide area of responsibility. Among his duties, he provides leadership for three squadrons, five directorates or divisions and nearly 850 total workers, oversees the management for test and evaluation on unmanned aerospace vehicles and other programs and is the executive manager for the Utah Test and Training Range. During Colonel Dielman's years at the 6545th, the unit acquired an additional aircraft, used to support Navy AEGIS missile ships, and two additional helicopters, which are used to do midair retrieval of missiles and drones. He is looking forward to having more time to spend with his family and playing golf and racquetball, once he is established in his new position. Col. Russ Stewart, who will come to Hill from his position as 6500th Air Base Wing vice commander at Edwards AFB Calif., will be Colonel Dielman's successor. 1991 Trail Boss 2x4 floral ALL ORDERS HANDLED WITH CARE Funerals Weddings Fresh Flowers Quality for Corsages DELIVERY 825-169- St. ytUsMaiii 3' maoh:e 0; I A l Less!! One accomplishment the colonel said he is proud of is the 6545th achieving high marks on inspections and evaluations. "Like most commanders, I would say that is due to the high morale and teamwork we have here," he said. Another is that the 6545th, in the face of cutbacks, was able to keep the UTTR intact for future customers as one range, rather than have responsibility for it divided among several organizations. "We are very proud of the customer satisfaction we provide, whether it is for training or test missions," he said. A command pilot with more than 4,800 hours of flying time, Colonel Dielman will begin a second career with a commercial airline.
