An appropriate program, under direction of Mayor Ray L Kizer, will include the h:gh school band, chorus, pastors of !ocal churches, and the general public. While the street decorations are following the same pattern as in previous years, the illuminated bells have been replaced with 25 new plastic ones, and new light strands have been erected, which should eliminate the frequent burning out of the colored 18-inc- globes. h The Volunteer Fire Depart-tesie- s nient Christmas Tree was put in place at the Bank Corner Thursday morning, and decorations will be in p'ace and ready for turning on of the lights at the program Saturday evening. Safe-Drivin- -- MILI-'OR- CAROL SINGING TO BE FEATURED The President's Action Com-m'tte- e for Traffic Safety has g designated Dec. 15 as obwUl be Day. It served on a nation-wid- e basis, under the committee's sponsorship with the cooperation of various other city, state and national organizations. Most of the fatalities charged to traffic accidents and much of the property damage and other economic losses could have been prevented if drivers and pedestrians alike would realize their personal responsibility for their own safety as pedestrians, and the 'safety ol themselves and others if they are drivers. Traffic actually is a personal responsibility. Pedestrians cannot overlook thpir rosnnneiHilitv in Murine the traffic toll. Following the ! laws and applying the cour-- j of the road to themselves and others will bring this about. it's Personal responsibility as simple as that. -- S3.00 a Year LIGHTS TO GLOW AT penses. Mr. Curn C. Harvey, Milford Elementary School. Dear Mr. Harvey: I was extremely interested .in the account of your Sixth Grade adopting the USS Lyman K. Swenson. I am also a teacher, I teach First Grade at Delta; but that is not the main reason I was interested in your project. Capt. Swenson is my mother's brother. I was only a little girl when he attended Naval Academy at Annapolis, and I remember so well how handsome I thought he was as he came home dressed in his uniform. I followed with interest his career with the Navy, and thus was thrilled to read that you had taken an interest in his ship, thus bringing to me the feeling that his memory and what he did still lives on. You might be interested to know that the "K" in Capt. Swenson's name stands for Knud and that he was named for his father, Knud Swenson. Knud was bom in Denmark April 11, 1827. His mother and father named him alter the Danish King "Knud.M I thought this little information might interest you and your class. I wish you continued success in your project. Sincerelv, vr.
