Show gets an exciting sense that, at every turn or behind every closed door, you have no idea what is waiting for you, just waiting to send the Orkin Man back to the Stone Age. I only had the game for a few days, and was unable to advance much beyond the game's beginning stages. Although my overall analysis of the game cannot be accurately determined, I know that this game is fun and well worth picking up. Hey, I got into it. I started kicking some ass. Nintendo's "Metroid Prime" is distributed exclusively for the Nintendo CameCube, and can be purchased wherever Nintendo videogames are sold. METROID continued from page EmmS KmkS V'ar RS aiming at objects or firing a wide array of nasty and powerful it's all there making for an intense style of gaming. The graphics are so lifelike and advanced, it kind of blows my mind that I still find Atari so frig-gifun, when all of the Nintendo game's vastness is comstored on a small three-incpact disc a fraction of the size of those Atari cartridges. "Metroid Prime" is action-packeand has a very sinister, unknowing and inquisitive feel about it. Throughout the game, or at least all of it that I played, one bug-zapper- THURSDAY JAN. But Orbit's show will still embody Slam's goal of engaging the audience. "The competition will look like it's going on in the ring, but it actually extends beyond that," says Duffy, alluding the struggle to combat media's constant hailstorm on society. In a drive-thrculture of instant gratification, the public often chooses form over content. In order to gain popularity, poetry needs to push boundaries. "I'm pretty about my belief that poetry needs to be more assertive, even aggressive and militant," says Duffy. Still, he maintains a commitment to raising the bar for performance poetry. "I strongly encourage Slam poets to read authors like Blake and Shakespeare, as well as those from overlooked continents," Duffy says. After all, performance poetry fails u hard-nose- d pro-activ- e, written material An attempt to maintain the integrity of the word, to bypass, "zeal without an anchor," is what drives Duffy's quest to enlighten the public. "Reaching out to the community, getting people involved.Mthat's what we desire." Back in the banquet hall, a teenager in baggy jeans, a puffy coat and a beanie steps on stage. His poem, "Devil's Sorrow," recounts painful memories of absent parents. He closes the piece with tears in his eyes, and the audience erupts in applause". You feel privileged for the opportunity to witness personal triumph and marvel at the communal celebration of creative catharsis. It is just one of the benefits received from an evening that evidences poetry as a language meant to be spoken out loud. The Orbit Cafe is located at 540 W. 200 South, call (801) 8 for more info. Foster agreed to speak to RED reporters regarding her history with Beckman at Saturday's performance of local rock band Optimus Prime. Any one of the Transformers could kick Voltron's ass Autobot or Decepticon, hell, even a Dinobot like Sky Lynx." Beckman contends that he "doesn't give a shit what Ally says; Sky Lynx is not a Dinobot, he's a hybrid Autobot. And you can just go tell Ally that the Misfits were way better than the Holograms any day." According to Dr. Venkman, Beckman may never have fully recovered from the psychological castration that occurred the day Foster "accidentally" misplaced the ring on his Green Lantern action figure. f' B EVENT INFORMATION B TICKET SALES worlds2003.deervalley.com smithstix.com 435.645.6510 Toll Free: 800.888.8499 Salt Lake City: 801.467.8499 V or one of three Deer Signature stores Valley Resort X i 4 "",Nwr . 0 rachaelred-mag.co- Rj2 J - H Wed, January 29, 2003 Q POETRY ur"AKAaf SCHEDULE -- when it's drawn from poorly MoH , KIrM1"'' continued 583-333- 1 EDNESDAY - ( GRAYWHALE GAME AND MOVIE is They play at Club West Temple). m GRAYWHALE CD 581-ASU- U an emo band that apparently rocks harder than Jimmy Eat World, according to their publicist.
