This is how my Advanced Field Ornithology class started our Spring Break, at the Vermillion Cliffs in Arizona. Then we moved on to southern Arizona where we observed birds in the Santa Rita Mountains near Tucson, This is one of the largest "bird-ed- " areas in the United States because birds visit these mountains during migration, and it's the only area- where you can observe many birds that primarily reside in Mexico. A short list of birds we saw would include Bridled Titmice, - , Ruby-Crown- ed Kinglets, Acorn Woodpeck- Painted. Redstarts, Canyon Juncos, Yellow-eye- d d Inca Doves, Juncos, Pyrrhu-loxiaDoves, Phainopeplas, ers, Towhees, Dark-eye- d White-Winge- s, Hummingbirds and many more. My grand total, was 74 different bird species. We even observed a pair of Burrowing Owls mating in a cemetery.
