Goalkeeper Courtney Hills came up big for Utah with six saves to help the Utes maintain their lead over the Falcons. "We got numbers to the ball quickly, and our four back players played very well," Freeman Winslow said. "Courtney also played well. We battled today and we played hard in rainy, freezing weather." Utah outshot the Falcons 22-- n in the match, and held onto its lead to take its second road victory in as many games this past weekend. The Utes also won a 2 game at Wyoming last Thursday. Sunday's victory ended Utah's regular season on a five-gawinning streak and put the Utes in the second-see- d position for the MWC Tournament. BYU managed to stay out of Utah's reach this season and will take the first seed in the tournament. Utah will have one week off to prepare for the tournament which will begin play in Las Vegas, Nev. on Nov. 1 and will continue until Nov. 4. 2-- T by kick from midfield. The final game for the Utes' regular season schedule went in their favor, as they defeated the Air Force Falcons 1 on Sunday, Oct. 21 in a game played in subpar weather conditions in Colorado Springs, Colo. The first half came and went without either team finding a way to score a goal, resulting in a stalemate until the second half. Just over a minute into the second half though, Utah made the first goal of the game when Katie Tate scored off a pass from Amy Kofoed. Five minutes later, Utah's Shauna Gurr capitalized on a rebounded shot off the crossbar by Tate to put the Utes two points ahead of the Falcons. From there, the game was won by Utah's defense. Utah was able to keep the Falcons at bay throughout most of the game. "I was proud of our defensive effort," Utah coach Amy Freeman Winslow said. Meanwhile, Air Force's lone score came off of a penalty 3-- DANNIELLE BENEVENTO advanced all the way tp the semifinal round of the tournament before losing. Just getting there was difficult enough for Kareld, though, as she had to defeat teammate Cassie Kasteler in the quarterfinal round just to make it there. Once she eked 5 out a victory against her Ute compatriot, however, things got even more difficult. She found herself matched against top seed and eventual champion Lenka Zacharova, from 5-- 7, 6-- 0, 7-- Weber State. There, Kareld was quickly bounced from the tourney, 0 sweep at the suffering a hands of Zacharova.
