Show Wednesday, June 24, 1998 PEARL JAM continued from page 4 which once again finds Vedder fighting fame, and the silly piece "Bugs." Once again at another turning point, their latest effort, the appropriately titled "Yield," finds Vedder stopping at the intersection to take a look in two directions: where he arty-accordi- has been and where he will be going. Like much of Vedder's material, the album is a therapy session for the personal demons being battled. The night's set included a handful of songs from the new album including the heavily Beatles-esqu- e "All Those Yesterdays," played for the first time live, and the guitar-rom- p "Given to Fly," which like earlier songs "Daughter" and "Jeremy," deals with a young narrator's isolation and escape. The rest of Pearl Jam's time on stage was devoted to playing, perhaps much to Vedder's dismay, the g radio Alternative Top 40 hits which placed him where he now stands. But the crowd, a n of the popuhealthy was lation, happy to hear the songs. Other than that, the night was mundane. Pearl Jam offered nothing monumental at Sunday night's concert, but it was pleasant way to start off the summer. Desjbiiain) TEETH Do you. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson work extremely well together. He's yin to her yang. More than a team, they work as a whole. They are fun to watch. The banter they attempt at the beginning of the film is awkward but isn't tried again, because banter isn't what their relationship is about. Duchovny is dry and sarcastic. He has a boyish charm with a smart-as- s wit. If he were any more laid back he'd be comatose. His portrayal of Mulder is subtle and understated. Mulder's passion for his work and fierce devotion to his partner crack his seemingly unflappable demeanor. Whenever Scully is in trouble he moves heaven and earth to save Anderson has played Scully for five seasons and throughout has remained a skeptic. She has grown as a character. At first she came off as a dowdy, geeky bookworm. Getting to know Scully over the length of the series, you discover she is just as passionate about her work as Mulder and has a wild streak.
