Show New LHS LHS Student Body Council promotes change CJp2 Oct and safety spirit, By r -? Trick-or-Tre- Cathy Aured City Editor Lehi High School's Welcome Back Assembly the Utah National Guard presented the colors and the audience simultaneously stood and listened as LHS Encore sang the national anthem. In thanking the National Guard for coming, Principal Sheldon Worthington was told by an officer, "No, we need to thank you. I was overcome with emotion." The patriotic beginning to the school year was part of the Lehi Student Council's plan for promoting patriotism during 0. The council also helped make sure that there was a flag in every classroom at the beginning of the 6chool year and consequently every Monday morning the school has been led by a student with the Pledge of Allegiance via the school speaker system. Part of a four-fol-d goal laid out by the Student Body Officers and their council, patriotism will be promoted along with service, safety, and spirit. Intended to promote school spirit, the shirt are different colors. Purple represents the seniors, black is for the juniors, and white is to be worn by the sophomores. The shirts are d for the Spirit Bowl Competitions. Service will be encouraged during National Make a Difference Day on October 23. The LHS Student Council has adopted State Road 92 or the Alpine Highway which runs, for two miles. The east of school will have a service project every month beginning in October. In December they will have an auction with the benefits going towards the Make a Wish Foundation andor Operation Smile. The LHS Student Council will also be observing a service week during National Volunteer Week, April 17-2- color-code- 3-- , wall. They will also bring fatal vision goggles which lets people see as an inebriated person would see.
