Show tree Press Sports Basin teams suffer losses to Lady Pioneers By TRACY WILSON Uintah and Union high schools both lost to Lehi High School's soft-ba- ll team last week as the Lady Pioneers have moved their league record to 0 with two shutouts 3 and a pasting of the Utes. Only Uintah has scored on the Purple and White as they got off to a 0 lead at Vernal on Tuesday before Lehi bounced back with a fifth inning and a seventh frame to put the Utes away, Crystal Reese handled the mound chores for the Pioneers and sprinkled 10 hits throughout the seven-innin- g contest. She faced 30 batters and struck out four. Offensively Lehi started slow with three Pioneers reaching base in the third canto, but all died on base. In the fourth Lehi managed to push one runner to second, but single by Katie Heaps. First baseman Rebecca Allan popped out to second before C. Gillman singled. Heaps was caught off base to end the inning, but the damage had been done. Eleven Utes got on base, but only three scored as the Pioneers were errorless in 34 chances. Reese allowed a 3.000 ERA for the game. At home on Friday Lehi left three runners on base in four innings before batting around in the fifth frame, scoring four runs on three hits, a walk, hit batter, a sacrifice and fielding error. In the meantime, Union got only two on base throughout the game, both on hits. Allan was credited for the win over the Cougars and now has three shut-outthe other league blank was against Park City. In the Union game she gave up three hits, she stopped there. Four Lehi runs crossed the plate in the fifth as Callie Gillman singled to start the frame. Rachel Bailey was out on a sacrifice, advancing Gillman to second then Heather Lund was thrown out at first as Gillman advanced to third. Katye Gillman singled to get on base and account for an RBI on her sister's score. Reese singled and Stacey Johnson loaded the bases on an error before Josalyn Chamberlain slammed a solid single scoring Reese and Johnson. In the final inning, Lehi added some insurance runs when K. k Gillman pounded an home run to the fence to lead off the frame. Reese hit a shot that was grabbed by the Ute shortstop and Johnson then singled Chamberlain tripled scoring Johnson. Chamberlain scored on a 3-- 7-- 3-- 7-- 3. inside-the-par- s, Netters continue to dominate opponents By TRACY WILSON Tennis players at Lehi High School are proving their number-thre- e state ranking may not be a fluke as last week they completely dominated two perennial contenders and a regular challenger in Utah tennis.
