Show Citizen, Free Press, Review - Wed., Feb. 19, 1997 - Page 10 Pleasant Grove High School to present Kaufman-Har- t comedy Maybe it's because this play is a laugh a minute, or maybe it's because it's about a wildly, eclectic family that is closer to the picture of the 1990's family than we 'd like to admit, but "You Can't Take It With You" has been a classic from its original opening night in 1938. You can see it Feb. 27, 28 and March 1 at the PGHS Dinner Theater Arena directed by Jason Purdie. "All teachers," he says, "wait for the perfect group of kids to do this play and I found them. Jessie good job Edward Hamilton, Clinch, Rebekah Cox, Sarah Wieda, Mike Gray and Kevin Gulledge play the six performers who make the play and they are all wonderful portraying the various personalities that are thrown together for the production. Mike Gray is especially good as the aging theatrical actor named Bruce who puts every ounce of passion he has into his part as the butler. Mike Smith is the director, David. His dialogue didn't come out quite as naturally as the others, but got better as the show progressed. Tami Gibbons was good as David's even keeled assistant director. Jeanne Madsen added humor as the Scandinavian costumer and Adam Williams also played a very believable tech guy. The first half of the play where they go through the casting and rehearsal process is enjoyable, but himj it isn't until after intermission that the comedy really picks up. That is when the play gets to opening night and the audience gets to see what goes on "backstage." It truly did keep me laughing. The costumes for the most part were great. One black outfit that is worn by two of the characters was a little distracting, however, because it had some gold trimming that was unraveling on the back and in one often finds oneself looking at people's backs. I hope they fix it before it gets much worse, since there are still a lot of performances yet to go. It is evident that a lot of hard work has gone into this production and the result is a very good show that is worth seeing.
