Show Page 32 - Mount Timpanogos Temple Special Edition Now it is 'my' tempie, too My first encounter with the new temple was as a freshman at BYU. One of my roommates hailed from American Fork and talked about "her" temple constantly. could relate to her excitement because, since I am from Davis County I felt the same way when the Bountiful Temple was announced. During the late fall we made an overnight trek to her house so we could go to the groundI breaking ceremony. About all 1 remember of that experience is my frozen toes and the chilly morning. It was hard to imagine then that the temple would ever be finished. Since that time, I've enjoyed watching the temple under construction. But it wasn't until this past winter and spring that I learned to identify with it as "my temple." I started dating my now-husba- in December of 1995. After a few months, when it started to become obvious that we were looking at a long-term relationship, I began going to his family's ward in Highland. In every class and every meeting, there was talk of "our temple" and the blessings it would bring. There were Family Home Evening kits and firesides, and I started to think people were a little crazed. But their enthusiasm was infectious, and by the time Troy and I got married and moved into the American Fork Stake, I was as impatient as anyone. We really wanted to volunteer to help at the open house on our ward's assigned day, but work schedules would not permit it. So instead we plan to attend and enjoy the open house and the dedication with our family. We are grateful for this temple in our community and it will always serve to remind me of my courtship, engagement, and marriage and the special people and memories associated with those events. Timpanogos Temple is a true testimony of the dedication and love the Saints have for the Lord and His Heavenly Work. As a missionary have I come to love that Holy House and the eternal sealing priesthood power within those hal A Temple By June Robinson One evening last week, I was standing on my back porch. Mv very excited grandson called to me. "Come see, Grandma. Come see." joined him in the yard where the view was open. The lights were on at the new Timpanogos Temple. It looked celestial. We gazed in awe. A special moment shared by grandmother and grandson. It is hard to express the feelings in our hearts. What does it mean to live in sight of God's Holy House, a temple on a hill, the hill being Pulley Hill where mv children enjoyed sleigh riding in winter and coasting in summer. Also, there were yearly visits I lowed walls. It is a place where one day I will receive, on the principles of righteousness, an eternal companion for time and all eternity and to raise a righteous family under that sacred covenant. I teach people each day about the House of the Lord and the principle of the eternal family. What a comforting truth to those who are lost in the world. The Mt. Timpanogos Temple will stand as a beacon of the love and sacrifice of Latter-da- y Saints and how lucky we are to have it and the eternal blessings that will flow from it. This church is true and under the direction of Jesus Christ, Himself. This I know, nothing wavering. It's my prayer that we will do our part to fulfill the prophecy of Malachi, that we will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. (Malachi 4:5) that we might, as the Lord has spoken, that we may rest with them in the Kingdom of mv Father. (D&C 15:6). Her beautiful grounds were breathtaking. It takes a great heart and love for her God and for other people to go to so much expense and time. Thank-yo- u In the Mary. spring and fall of the year, we drove our family flock of sheep up the hill. We grazed them on the stake farm, where the Timpanogos Temple now stands. The sheep always looked so peaceful grazing there. always liked the view from up there. The green I fields of spring and the col- ors of fall, the homes and the cities. Also, beautiful Utah Lake surrounded by our beautiful mountains. So peaceful our Utah Valley. It is appropriate that it should be the spot for our sacred Timpanogos Temple, a temple dedicated to our Father in Heaven, his Holy House. A Temple on a Hill, our special hill. How blessed are we as a people to have this great blessing. Gone are the days of sleigh riding and coasting, also grazing of sheep there in the green fields. A new time has come, a time to turn our hearts and foot steps to this Holy Place. To do work for our ancestors. And renew our faith and testimonies and thus express our love to our Father in heaven. Scott Anderson submitted this photograph of the temple as seen from his Pleasant Grove home. Photo by Scott Anderson Building of the temple has affected entire community By CAROL ACKERMAN We have all watched the construction of the Mt. Timpanogos Temple with anticipation and deep interest. We feel like we are so blessed and privileged to have a holy temple available to us so very close. As mv husband, Boyd, managed the Stake Farm and worked on this very ground it is built on, we have a special interest in it. What was once fertile farm ground is now Holy Ground. To us it is a miracle to see the change transpire. I feel like the building of this temple has affected our whole community, members and espe and cially the children. It has been a wonderful teaching tool to help them understand the true purpose and meaning of our sacred temples. My grandchildren are really happy for it in our neighborhood. It is in our daily conversations. We are so anxious to be able to go inside the doors and view the interior. It will be a privilege to perform sacred ordinances for our kindred dead. When we do this our lives are improved and many blessings our ours. If you have not taken the opportunity at sunset to view this beautiful edifice, you are missing a beautiful sight. The Moroni Angel towering the golden glow and against beautiful colors in the west is breathtaking. We are told that temples are the very center of the spiritual strength of the church. We are anxiously awaiting the opening of our temple and hope to be able to work at the open house. These are blessings and privileges only offered once in a lifetime. |
